Overstress, of course I agree with you that someone with a year's experience would be able to take charge. The problem we have is not whether they could, but whether they would.
I have flown with many crew of late who've all said that unless they are paid a Purser's salary, they would refuse to take charge.
As for stepping up that's what I do anyway, Overstress.
I am a SCCM.
Pilot's offering advice, are they going to help organise the crew in Eurotaveller when the CSD is dealing with all the IFE, meal and seating problems with 72 club passengers.
Are you a BA Pilot be any chance with experience on these flights? No offence intended.
You manage the crew but not in the way I do.
What I'm talking about is managing and organising the service, the IFE problems which you can't always sort out, the meal problems, things that you are not always able to offer a solution to and of course on shorthaul there is a time factor. With all due respect, I totally respect what you do and have sought advice when needed from your goodselves.
You've definitely got a point Tiramisu. I would expect most flights to run smoothly with 1 crew down. On the flights that are too busy and generate complaints/bad surveys BA has the option to increase crew complement.
Crew not willing to work a bit harder or do not take the challenge/responsability to "work above their paygrade" should get rid of their old school civil servant mentality and have a look at the world outside BA...
Hi 7Heroes,
In my quarter of a century with BA, we've always had just one Purser and one CSD on Eurofleet. It's on worldwide that they have 2 Pursers.
However, I'll try and cope. I always have but I do think the service may suffer.
We will be working harder, I'm prepared for that which is what we get paid for anyway.
Having said that New Fleet is a real concern to me. With the new proposals, the redeployment arrangements if you've read them, mean I could be out of my job in 52 weeks or be on New fleet stripped off my present grade to main crew. I 'm prepared to take a pay cut but not to be transferred to New Fleet loosing everything I've worked for.
They can take a 1 crew off each flight, but in my opnion we need a CSD and a Purser on twin aisle aircrafts. At the end of the day, it's all down to cost.
I absolutely love my job and BA but, both sides need to get back to the table and negotiate before this iconic brand is destroyed. Something and someone has got to give, but this whole strike thing is definitely the wrong approach.
Rach-G,
That was a really sad post. You probably don't believe it, but most BA pilots are 'onside' with the cabin crew, but genuinely feel you guys are being led down the swanee by BASSA.
On my last trip, not one of the cabin crew (including the CSD) had read BF's letter to you all, but were only interested in what BASSA's version was. So you are prepared to go on strike & bring down the Company without even listening to what the Company has to say?
I believe that Mr Justice Butterfield adjourned at 1200 to consider his ruling and is expected to return at around 1600.
Guys, whether you're flight crew, cabin crew or interested bystander can we please refrain from posting inflammatory rhetoric on here? I can only imagine that having to moderate this thread on the fly is eventually going to be given up by the mods and it'll be binned, along with the banning of a number of contributors.
Whatever side of the fence we sit on, we look like fools when we allow it to become too emotionally charged and we leave reason and debate behind.
Or is that just a vain hope?
MrB

Tiramsu I agree that looking after 340 + pax (767)with only 1 management grade will be vastly different to a 319 with only 100.Even a 747 will have a csd and 2 pursers and they carry 291 pax.Good luck. But this may be where Bassa should have been negotiating for the last 9 months.
I note from the following Court Hearings - Queen's Bench Division that there's a docket for tomorrow at 10 also. I assume this is a contingency "booking" if deliberations were to continue beyond today.
It is emphasised that the following list is provisional and subject to change until 4.30pm. Any alterations after this time will be telephoned or emailed direct to the parties or their legal representatives.

PS - Further to my post above, those of us who do work for BA have got to work together again when all this is over. I'd hate it to be on the level that so much of the debate on here and CF has been carried out.
Tiramisu, yes I am a BA pilot, shorthaul for a number of years and on longhaul for the past 5. I must say you sound like the vast majority of crew I know, ie very level-headed and sensible.
It is a shame that some crew say they won't help out, given that the company is in a very poor state. Practically speaking, niceties like IFE problems would have to be binned in the busy situation you describe, having an 'onboard re-set manager' is a luxury too far, perhaps.
With your concerns about new fleet, would you not be able to transfer across as a SCCM? They will have to get their supervisors from somewhere initially due to the 1-year rule.
As it is 3.20pm now I wonder if the judge has [s]woken from his nap[/s] made his decision yet?
Mr Bunker,
Not on my part I can assure you. I've been reading this whole thread for sometime but I've just started posting.
I've always tried to promote good CRM.
Hi Overstress,
You are right, IFE isn't the most important part of the service on Eurofleet and one would have to prioritise.
Nothing's set in stone as yet with regards to New Fleet, but Bill Francis did mention sometime ago that if were were to transfer to New Fleet it would be on new terms and conditions and on a new grade. But at the end of the day, I would rather be in a job with new T's and C's than without one. It's very cold outside and we've really had it good for a long time. The job isn't hard, even for a CSD, you just work harder on busier flights that's all. What the majority don't appreciate within BA is how good an employer BA really is.
