Am I right in understanding that they will now have an external crew member soley to clean the toilets and explain the shower to people?

Is this person going to be paid more or less than the normal cabin crew?

I currently work alongside the Cabin Service Assistants (CSA's) and they are a great bunch of people... The job is to prepare and explain the Shower Spas to our First Class passengers. The cleaning and toilet replenishemnt are additional duties that are only carried out if First Class isnt busy with Shower Spa reservations. As Crew we still have to monitor, replenish and clean toilets if neccesary. They recieve a basic wage and flying pay, it is lower than Cabin Crew. They recieve company accomodation... 4 people in a 2 bedroom apartment, along with all the other regular benefits of working with Emirates. I hope this helps...

You are correct, their wage is different, as their duties are different from the cabin crew. The CSAs are there for service only; they do not have any safety aspect to their official duties (although of course the girls would get the crew immediately if they see anything unusual) They are not required to complete SEP training nor participate in cabin service so the salary reflects this. I believe their flying pay is also less, but the allowances for layovers are the same for everyone.

On ULR trips two are carried; they generally share a hotel room on those trips (which I think must drive them crazy after 14hrs together)!

All in all the CSAs are a lovely bunch, never complaing (bar one exception I met once but she was just that- an exception) most of these girls are sending money home to their families too. Of course they have to clean toilets sometimes but this is something that all of the crew should be doing. Oftentimes we'll do the toilets ourselves but the girls will help us as they have the proper supplies for cleaning and also have more stock to replenish e.g. toilet paper, tissues etc.

They also have a different uniform so the passengers can tell them apart, still, the poor things always seem to get bombarded with requests for a drink on their way down the cabin.... which of course we will get for them as they will come tell us who wants what.

I'm told at the moment there aren't any who have become CC however I did hear this might be changing soon. A lot of them wanted to be CC but were offered the CSA job instead. I have a feeling they get recruited for their 'nice' personalities and I think some of them might be TOO nice for some of the passengers we get on board, if you know what I mean. They are also a varied bunch, some of them were doing the same thing before (hospitality/housekeeping), others have come from education or corporate jobs and took this opportunity for the travel and benefits they can get for themselves and their families.

Some people generalise them as maids and cleaners but they are a respected part of our team, not to mention very interesting to talk to :ok:

i am wondering if the basic salary of EK- CSA is the same as the basic of cabin crew?only the flying hours is different by how much?

its 1200 aed/month (i.e. 3 times less than a full fledged cabin crew. Flying pay is also only 50% at about 23 aed per hour...

Hello.. Would you please tell me more details about Cabin Services Assistant? It sounds so interesting though.

Just to clarify some things..First of all, Cabin Services Assistants were not hired just because of their pleasing personality.. It just so happened that most of them especially the later batch were hired in UAE and as we all know, in UAE they only hire Arabic people or those who are fluent in Arabic, so on this alone those other nationalities who aspire to be a Cabin Crew already don't stand a chance. Next thing, their assessment is exactly the same as that of a Cabin Crew. They have to go through different stages before making sure that they really made it. Also, there are already some CSAs who became CC, because the truth is actually, most CSAs earned a college degree and even have a very promising career background, such as being a licensed nurse or other medical background. As from my point of view, Emirates benefit from these people very well, since they are overqualified for the job position and job requirement..what more they are paid less! They also deserve being a CC, because what sets them apart from being a CC? it's just the SEP training which is just really a piece of cake to begin with! So don't judge CSAs just being a toilet cleaner..You'll never know they had more advantage and exceptional credentials than those other CC!

Wow you seem to be a very down to earth and you do not judge people based on what you have just posted, i am quite pleased to read that.Ok i have been called for interview with the Emirates Group some time back on passenger service(Airport Service Agent) of which i got a regret now i have been scheduled for another interview if Cabin Assistant.I have been working in Dubai for 3 years i started as a customer care rep and now admin assistant..my company is big yeah but the pay is not good i work in a mall and despite the little pay i have to at times work odd hours.what should i do? should i give it a try because i believe in life we all have to start from somewea and despite my work experience and my college degree of Human Resource i want to give it a try.i also wash my bathroom and toilet so its not a big deal and also i know with emirates many opportunities will arise and this is where my career can make a difference.i can work and after my probation apply for internal positions..plz advice:)

JDEP are u sure its 23 aed per hour????????thats ridiculous meaning if one travels on 16hr flight then she/he only gets 368 aed ???????????ewwwwwwwwww thats little..plz plz guys i want the right figures coz i have an interview and i dont want to waste my time going thea if the pay is so little like that..or should i give myself hopes of arising or applying internal positions after my probation? cz i have worked in Dubai fr 3years as a customer care rep n now admin assistant.:O

I never said they were only hired for personality- though you must agree this is a large part of the job (CC or CSA)

I believe I also mentioned that I worked with a lot of girls who had other jobs prior (journalist, nurse etc) i.e. "exceptional credentials"

You cannot deny though that they only recruit from certain nationalities, and there is a reason for that. I'll let you work that one out. And it's a fact that many of them come from 'tough' backgrounds and so are willing to put up with a lot more than other people might to earn a good living and support their families back home (hats off to them)

Hotance, the hourly flight pay is on top of basic salary and of course if you did a 16hr flight (closer to 14 on A380 at the moment) there would be a layover, therefore there would be layover allowance too. So, if you wanted to you could save the majority of that to supplement what you'd make from flying. Lots of crew (not just CSAs) do this.

Tough Selection Process
 

Well. I just recently attended CSA selection process and all I can say is, it's tough! Mind you out of 160 shortlisted only 15 goes through for FI. Lucky to say I'm one. Don't underestimate CSA. I earned a degree but choose to be part of the program.:D

OMG. I was one of the lucky candidates too.. did you go at jul 31st in emirates? If so I probably have seen you already. It was soooo tough, my aunt said the process we went through is just as the same as the process of cabin crew.
