Working as cabin crew temporarily

I've recently finished training to be a pilot with the goal of flying with an airline. However it can be tough to get a flying job and take some time so I was considering trying for cabin crew in the mean time. As well as being an interesting temporary job hopefully the airline experience would count in my favour in pilot interviews too.

I wonder if any of you could shed some light on how the contracts work. Are they for a fixed period of time such as 6 months or a year, or is it possible to resign at fairly short notice, say a month. Obviously if I was successful at a pilot interview I would want to leave to take that instead .

Do you get many new pilots doing this? What do you think the airline thinks of them?

It depends on the airline, certainly the more seasonal carriers will give you a fixed term contract initially. I would imagine the notice period varies from airline to airline but a month is about right.

It depends entirely on your attitude. You need to be an outgoing person and not afraid to muck in, a "holier than thou" attitude won't get you very far. Do the job to your best of ability and keep a level head then you will be fine, and also really enjoy the job too. Good luck
