Ifly

Hey ifly, seems your pretty much on the same position as I am. Good to know we're in the same boat. The process I've gone through has pretty much been the same. I provided my referee details on the day when I was also told I was successful and then the the next day received the email confirming gs for July 18th and saying subject to successful reference checks. I emailed them the next day with my referee details because I realized one of the numbers I gave was wrong and received an email saying thanks, we'll be in contact with you soon regarding the process of your application. *I don't know if my referees have been called yet though because both of mine are like the big bosses at the two places where I work so I don't really know them personally (although when I called to ask if they could be my referees they said it was fine) and not sure if they would let me know if they have been spoken to.. Killing me not knowing at least you have some closure! Hopefully mine have given a glowing reference too!*
Ahh the waiting game!

FYI
I got an email yesterday from Altara HR, advising that employment packs will be sent 'tomorrow', i.e. today, for all applicants who had successful reference checks.

If you don't receive an enployment pack, they haven't been able to get in contact with your referees..
They ask to be contacted prior to Friday 29th June if you haven't received an email from them by 5pm Thursday 28th June (I imagine they email you if they can't get on to your referees).

Employment packs need to be back to Altara by COB Thursday 5th July.

Guys, it sounded like Altara planned to mail the packs today, (Thursday 28th), therefore you should receive tomorrow (Friday 29th) at the absolute earliest.

I wouldn't expect to receive it 'til next week

This is long...

Hi everyone, I just discovered this forum today, and I'm glad I did!

Can anybody possibly help me please with some info?

I attended an AD for cabin crew on 15 May in Sydney.

Happily, I was told at the end of the day I was successful. YAY.

I got the confirmation email the next day to say that I was successful and will be offered a position pending successful reference checks.

They went on to say they will be in touch after *July* to let me know when I will be scheduled to start ground school.

This was a bit disconcerting because they indicated at the AD that those who were available to start straight away would possibly be in the very next ground school. I only need to give one week's notice with my job.

A guy I met at the AD was told in his email that he was starting GS on July 2. He had to re-locate from the Gold Coast, so lucky him getting in so early.

Then, he got to start even earlier. He was in the GS that started four weeks ago (they graduate tomorrow), because the July 2 school was delayed, or so he was told.

I emailed Tiger about five weeks ago and asked if they have timeframe they can give me because I need to plan.

They wrote back and said "we are currently working on scheduling for the second half of the year. This will be communicated after July".

I do temp work at the moment. I only get paid for the days I work. My current employer wanted to extend me to October, but because I couldn't guarantee I would be able to make that commitment - as I don't know exactly when Tiger will give me the green light - I missed out. They offered the contract to somebody else. Fair enough.

It really leaves me in the lurch.

I heard through the grapevine that others at my AD received the same email regarding finding out dates after July.

Does anyone know of anyone else in this position and/or know what Tiger's scheduling looks like?

It's hard knowing that yes, I was successful and will be offered a position, just not knowing when!

Any replies would be most welcome.

Thanks

Whitelilly

I can understand your frustration of not knowing.
The current group that were due to graduate today were delayed as we dont have enought aircrafts for them to do an aircraft visit. I know there is a MEl GS starting on the 18th.
The trainers are extremely busy right now! We are short staffed so they are needed online to operate therefore delaying training.
I did hear them talking about another 2/3 groups coming up, whether that includes those who are aware of a start date or not.
I'm sure they'll push you through as soon as they can because we desperately need you!
I've met quite a few of the SYD crew and they're lovely! You'll be in good hands

PPRuNe and specifically this Forum are NOT, repeat NOT Social Networks (Facebook IS an example of a social network, as are MySpace and Google Plus+).

PPRuNe is intended for use by Airline employees seeking to exchange useful information and this forum exists for Wannabes to do the same.

PPRuNe is NOT intended for the exchange of excited chatter, expressions of goodwill and hope, messages about Private Messages or any of the other rubbish that has recently been polluting these threads.

These threads are a source of valuable information to those applying for jobs: Forcing others to have to wade through pointless and idle chatter relevant to only those involved to get at the necessary information is unfair, and a selfish act by those involved and will result in immediate sanctions being taken.

I have another question if that's ok.

My friend who was supposed to graduate yesterday is now graduating on Tuesday.

He told me they are probably going to be working out of melbourne for the first month.

Does that mean there is some kind of delay regarding the Sydney base?

I'm just so keen to get started, I hope it's going to be soon.

Whitelilly don't worry. The Sydney base is operational but having all brand new crew onboard is not allowed by CASA. So to get the new crew upto speed Tiger are sending Sydney crew to Melbourne to operate on flights with experienced crew. Once you have flown a few sectors you will then operate out of your home base ie. SYD.

In a few months there should be enough experienced crew in SYD and flying temporarily out of MEL won't be needed.

Good luck.

Experience Levels

Apologies to interject somewhereat1l, however it is not a CASA requirement to prevent inexperienced crew cabin crew operating together. This only applies to Flight Crew. It is a company requirement however, and one that should be a CASA requirement.

I work in OCC and cannot believe the lack of restrictions Cabin Crew have in the country in comparison to my previous life as an FA for an airline in Europe.

I am glad the EBA has finally sorted this out and actually giving you some life/work balance.

Melbourne ground school and the practical assessments for Sydney ground school are held at the Ansett centre in tullamarine, Melbourne. Right near the airport.
The swimming and life raft stuff is done at the Qantas training centre which is also close by.
Pilots from all over do their sims training there too.

Cabin Managers SYD Base

Does anyone know how many hours fly pay you would receive on average in the SYD base and how many sectors you would do a day. Cheers

The flight hours depend on time of year usually. It's still hard to tell for an average for SYD base as it is expected to expand for some time.
I know that there are a few CM's who have done their max hrs for this month and plenty others are being called on their days off (their mission should they chose to accept rewards them with a day off in lieu and $200)
We are very short staffed ATM so we are all working very hard, hopefully in the coming months this will ease up (although with Xmas holidays fast approaching I doubt it)
There is currently only one SYD base CM. The rest are MEL crew on trips. So from what I've seen their current flight hours are around 80-110.

Most of the training is done in SYD (for SYD based crew) practical assessments and such are done in MEL (I think approx 1 week). Training pay isn't much at all and you receive it as a cheque upon graduation. Accomodation and a daily allowance is provided the week in MEL (staying at the Mantra, Tullamarine). However, I'm sure you will be required to spend additional time working from the MEL base with your 'buddy' and untill you are no longer 'green'.

Red face Drivers licence?!

Hi, is a drivers' licence absolutely mandatory for cabin crew? If so, why?

I could be wrong. But I'm quite certain it is because they want to ensure you are able to get too and from work easily enough (including standbys when you have 90minutes from your phone call to sign on), Although there are plenty of FA's who catch the skybus and use public transport.

Hi all. Just wondering if anyone knows when they will commence a
Ground school for the Syd base or are there any currently scheduled elsewhere? I'm On standby for Sydney but was told No schools scheduled and the Syd base is full. Does that seem correct ?

The SYD base is in need of CM's. I am unsure of the demand for FA's though.

Im guessing your full time with tiger so on a salary, but do you get any flight pay etc? Theres next to no information on the net about it so any help that anyone can give would be greatly appreciated!
