Hi hayley.lundall,

I thought I can answer for some of your questions regarding the OD for Qatar airways as I've read every single posts who wrote in this forum.

1. Can anyone attend the Open Day (My friend has a CAA Lisense and would like to apply?
Yes! anyone can attend the open day without even an invitation, as it is open to everyone.

2. What to wear?
If you want to give them a good impression, it would be a good idea to dress smartly. However, it's not obligatory at the OD. They'll tell you if you get selected, which will be the next day, to wear a formal suit with a skirt.

3. Are you allowed to wear colour contact lenses if they are tested or should I just wear my clear/natural ones?

At the OD, they don't even care whether you wear colour contact lenses or not. You've got only max 1mins to show off your good qualities to either of 2 recruiters.

4. Are you allowed to have a french Manicure a short length or should i just keep my nails short?

At the OD, they don't even care whether you have a french manicure or a short nails. (I feel like I'm repeating myself)
As long as your nails are neat and clean, you won't have issues.

5.Is it fine if your photos are taken at home and printed and not in a professional studio. how strict are they?

At the OD, it doesn't matter. Again, if you get through the final interview, they will anyway ask for your photo taken professionally if you have them taken at home.

6.Any other tips for me?

I don't think I'm the right person to give you any tips here, as I faild.
But most members here say 'be yourself and you'll be fine'
I don't get this. Maybe I wasn't being myself. I tried to smile all the time and they may have seen my unnatural smile(!)
It was just painful experience for me.

Anyway, wish you the best of luck

Hope it helped.

grapefruit, i completely empathise XD i failed first too, so i learnt 'NOT to be yourself' and then i passed the second time haha. well dont take it that seriously, its not like i acted as a completely ddifferent person, i just saw the things that I might have done wrong or was lacking and by the next interview i tried to focus on these things (e.g. no matter how much i wanted to say something i should have never appeared pushy or impatient, so i shut up and waited for my turn)
one thing is for sure, smile a lot and be very friendly for the OD, first impression counts the most. the AD: teamwork!
by the way, if you start reading this thread from the beginning you will see A LOT of good info, indeed i think we are not saying anything new here, everything has been said before..
good luck on your interviews
(today im a bit happier because finally i got a perfect CBC! *hopes and hopes*)

Okay here's my small monthly contribution. At the risk of upsetting people here goes...Grapefruit I think the mere fact that you think the interviewers don't care how you dress, wear your nails etc on the first day of assessment may explain why you were unsuccessful this time. Trust me they care and they notice every little thing, I would say it is crucial to dress to impress on that first day and to adhere to all the company's grooming guidelines right from the word go. So you may just be handing in a C.V and a brief exchange but you will stand out if you are well groomed, wear a business suit, neutral hosiery, court shoes (closed toe) well polished, hair back off your face and well made up with either a french manicure or polished nails, minimal jewellery....I can't believe that anyone thinks this is not important when it is the very first impression you are making on the people who will decide whether you are through to the next stage or not!! Regarding meal expenses it varies between destinations. Regarding internet, yes it's in nearly all the new apartments for a small monthly charge but as Emma Gemma says it is no problem to get it installed, in the interim period there is easy access to internet, most people keep in touch with family using Skype. Lastly to the girl worrying about her height, lots of six footers in Q.R!!! ´Good luck to all.

Hi irishbecky,

I just want to correct some points you made. I don't think you've read my posts carefully. I never said ' they don't care how you dress' Instead, if you want to give a good impression to them, dress smartly and that's how I did on the OD. I tried to make myself the best look possible with a smart outfit and neutral nail vanished(!) Even a girl sat next to me asked whether I'm already a flight attendant as she thought I looked just like a flight attendant. Well.. If there was any reason for my failure, I think that I was a bit too old to apply for it. I feel pretty disappointed by their hasty judgement and unfairness.
Anyway, I'm still hoping to fly oneday until I'm at the age of 40.

Apart from these, you are absoutely right about things you mentioned as I heard the same things there.

Hi Hayley Lundall,
1. yes anyone can attend the Open day

2. I think you should wear suit with skirt and closed shoes with heels. Hair should be styled away from the face .

3. I think you should wear your clear/natural contact lenses

4. Nails must be well manicured and polished. I have a french manicure, so I think that is not a problem

5. At the open day, it doesn't matter. For the finalnal interview they will ask you to bring a professional photo

6. Smile, smile, smile and smile and make friends, and be natural. Listen to the others and tell your opinion. Just be yourself.

ALL THE BEST!!!!

Think about your appearance and grooming because you will be screened from the very first second you enter the door until you leave!

As for Belgrade it should most likely be in September. Best thing to do is apply online for the interview.

I am starting trainings on September 7th.

I heard from one of the girls that had her OD with me that she ended up in an old accommodation...

Anyone knows anything about that? Thought everything was new and nice there...

Not everything is nice and new. They will put you wherever available which could as well be one of the old buildings.
