For everyone that is having problems with their medicals... get them done as soon as you can and make sure you do all that is required and PROPERLY! if there are any abnormalities, make Qatar aware of them. Send them off as quickly as you can! I did my medicals within 2 days, sent them off 5 days later and had clearance LESS than 2 weeks later and am booked to leave in August. So hurry hurry hurry! Even though they are busy, I got cleared quickly! So do it right!
It's 12 hours before duty and you can't leave your apartment except if there's a fire. If you do you will be in trouble and called into the office to explain why you dared to leave your home. It will go down on your file and you could be faced with a disciplinary action or dismissal. If your duty is 6 AM in the morning you have to be home at 6 PM and during these 12 hours you are not allowed to leave.
The layoves are different. Most of them are 24 hours but some are shorter and some are longer depending on the frequencies to the destination. It's common practice that they give you minimum rest in Doha and fly you somewhere else. They take no consideration whatsoever of you flying through different time zones so you could come home from Osaka, have minimum rest, and fly off to Casablanca. Still most airlines in the Middle East do this and not only QR.
Visible tattoos are not acceptable and if they find out you have one hidden you will be sacked. It won't be a problem if you can hide it in uniform.
QR pays less than EK and EY.
They are losing a lot of crew and you could ask yourself why they are one of few airlines still recruiting when others either have stopped recruitment and/ or laying off staff. Some crew last only for a few weeks and some stay there for years. It's very individual whether you will like it and depends on your background and how open-minded you are but you would actually find crew saying that they "love" QR and that none of the rumoured rubbish is happening!
my CBC had normal results and yet they still asked me to re-do. i even asked my doctor again to make sure and he even made a report saying my CBC was normal and i was in perfect health. but qatar asked for another one one month later. this other girl that had the FI (april) with me had to re-do her CBC too even though everything was normal and then they asked her to do urine too... 3 times already and waiting.... i do not understand why they keep asking to re-do the tests even though everything is normal. and havent heard anything from them in 3 weeks.... wish i had my medicals cleared easly like some of you guy!!
that really is very weird... i don't know why qatar keeps asking you to redo your results. perhaps you should e-mail avina and ask her what on earth is going on?! it must be so frustrating waiting so long! i am so glad mine was done in no time at all... wish it was the same for all of you!!!!
I agree with aj, that's extremely weird if that's the case. I had some abnormalities with a couple of my CBC's. My doctor said that its normal for someone of my origin and has been highlighted. If you lot had perfectly normal CBC's and were asked to redo it, then i will definately be put on hold for a long time because I am sure I would be asked to redo it as well.
But knowing my luck, I guessed something like this was going to happen to me. , here is to waiting and not knowing. God willing, hope everything turns out ok for all of us.
good question bunny gal! im curious of the answer myself too!
and some bad stuff x.x my CBC has values that are a bit off, not much but a bit. so i took it to my GP too and she told me that i have a chronic inflammation!?!?!?!! O_O will that make me not be suitable? x.x will they refuse me?
Recruitment is very busy but you should at least get a reply if they have received your medical certificates. If I were you I would email them and ask. Better safe than sorry!
Why would you annoy them with your questions? That's what the recruitment staff are there for!
Should as in out of courtesy but they are very busy and probably why they don't bother in replying. Maybe if you want to be sure that they have received your medicals you could always ring and speak to them because then they can't ignore you!
Thanks for your replies emma_gemma! Im certain the recruitment team is very busy since there are many hopeful candidates. Im just one of them. We all have to think positive.
For the rest out there waiting for medical clearance, we can do it. All the best to 'us'.
aj campbell - thanks for the message, it is a good thing to know that at least people out there are being cleared... i would be worried if everybody was in the same position as i am!
bunny gal - i have sent in medical exams about 4, 5 times and they never replied to me right away. the last one i sent them was 2 weeks ago and just yesterday they sent me an email saying that they received it and will let me know once they hear from the doctor. so i guess its normal. seems like they are pretty busy for sure, like emma said.
have been reading this forum for a while, and as I have seen some people getting a little bit concerned, I've decided to write to let them know that they should not give up!
had my interview in april in Madrid and sent my medicals at the beggining of june. took them 2 weeks to get back to me and they told me I should re-do my CBC (not sure why... thought it was just an excuse to say NO...) aaaanyway, did the tests and sent them last Thursday and today I've received the "magic" phone call, I'm leaving Aug 21st!!!
so this goes for all of you who think it's never going to happen: it WILL happen, you just have to be pacient and keep thinking positive and I'm sure we'll see each other in Doha real soon!!!
Thank you guys for replying... anyways I can not understand why they are asking to redo our CBC, as I said before there are not normal range, just a reference range, and they as doctor have to know that... even if we have something abnormal I think it's ok because we can still work as a cabin crew... Well I will redo my CBC and see what happen, anyways I have to wait cos now I have a cold so it could be evern worse... so after that I will let you know...
Are they calling to everyone when the doctors clear the medical or they just send an email?
Crew must be in excellent health as flying is exhausting, both physically and mentally, to your body and any condition could have a great impact on your health and safety.
An increase or decrease of any part of your CBC could be an indication of a disease in your body. A decrease in number of red blood cells could be because of anemia which would make you fatigue and could also affect your concentration. An increase in the number of white blood cells could be because of an infection in your body. There could be many reasons as to why they are asking you to take the test again but it could be as simple as an infection in your body which would affect the results of your CBC.
QR would ask you to take the test again to see if it's permanent or temporary.
That is a good question... I have a friends who are working for other airlines, one has diabetes and the other one a thyroid problem, they are working as cabin crew, they have to take madication so I do not understan which is the problem if we have a illness like those... I think they are going to discriminate us... well I hope not... what do you think? what are you asking that? do you have a chronic inflamation?
