Thanks for your info! are you flying domestic or international? How many hours a month do you usually fly? What is the salery like? I heard it was only like $29k or something? I have flown before and i LOVE the job (most of the time!) but i dont think i could survive on such a small salary...

I'm on active hold in Auckland and am looking at moving house shortly so I want to know how much I can expect to make as cabin crew with Jetstar per month so can work out my budget and what I can and cant afford. I'm on $40K now as a receptionist which is about $2,700 a month. I'm just worried I'm going to have to seriously reconstruct my lifestyle!

Can someone help!?!

Cheers!

I know!! I'm australian too and I'm stuck in Auckland, all I want to do is go home but I'm afraid if i do i'll miss out on my dream. It would be too hard to go home and come back, i dont think i could force myself to get on the plane!!

How's flying with Qantas? Can i ask what your wage is like every month just out of curiousity? I'm not sure what to expect.

Cheers!

JQ dont pay all their NZ employees much. Look into the likes of Pacific Blue if you are after more than $40k. They seem to be expanding..

JetStar Walk-in Interview in Singapore

JetStar is holding an interview in Singapore on 31st August 09.

Anyone please clear my queries.

What can I expect from the interview?

How long do they last?

What do I need to bring along?

-Thanks.

I hope this helps!

I had my Assessment Centre here in Auckland a few months ago, I got through to the afternoon tea and then 2 day's later received an email with a medical and security clearance. I completed both the next day and Jetstar checked my references etc. Sadly a few weeks later I was notified by email that they've put me int heir 'active hold' file and will be in contact again when they have a Ground School placement. So far I've been waiting almost 6 months which has been exceptionally hard.

Anyway, I hope I can give you all some really helpful advice for your upcoming interview because I know how nerve racking it is especially when it's your dream. I couldn't even eat before mine I was so nervous; I'd had my application sitting in the recruitment system for a number of airline for about the past 8 years so getting invited was pretty much the biggest thing that had happened to me!

Firstly, here's a bit of an explanation of how the initial interview/assessment centre works.

The Assessment Centre was held at a hotel in downtown Auckland, everyone arrived early and there must have been about 40 of us all up. At 8.30 we were all brought upstairs and organised in to tables with 7 of us at each table and designated a recruitment person pre table. Everyone was given a name tag and for the first hour chatted amongst ourselves while the recruitment person for our table took us into a separate room for a quick one on one interview.

I was first up and was asked to give a brief account of my work history and then I was asked about 3 or 4 questions such as why I applied to work with Jetstar, to give an example of a time I provided great customer service which I tried to answer as confidently as possible and then returned to the table. When everyone at our table had been interviewed the copies of our documents were collected as well as having the originally sighted and then our height was taken. We then had a presentation about Jetstar, their routes, planes & company history etc (take notes because some of this comes up in the general knowledge quiz later) and had the opportunity to ask questions.

After this we started the group activity portion of the interview. The first task our recruitment person threw a pack of cards on the table and we had to, as a team, arrange these back into correct order. The second task we were given a card with a picture on it (mine was a ruby player) and were required to speak to the group about how we thought our picture related to a Jetstar destination. And the third task we were given puzzle pieces and had to put them together to make a square which was harder than it looked, it was easier if everyone did one themselves and the person who got it first everyone copied from. Finally they have you complete a quick 10 minute general knowledge test with questions like: ‘If someone ordered a coffee for $2.00 and a chocolate bar for $1.10 and gave you a $5 note, how much change would you give them?’, there was also a few questions on time zone changes (which weren’t that hard) and a geography question where you have to mark destinations on a blank map. After this you’re free to go and will be notified by phone as to whether you were successful and made it to the morning/afternoon tea.

I remember we were told by email that if we got through the morning tea would be the following day but upon arriving at the interview were told that it would be that afternoon with no explanation which I kind of thought might be a way to test our flexibility since they’re all about flexibility in flight attendants!

So I got a call back to the afternoon tea about 15 minutes after I left the Assessment Centre, I can’t even explain how excited I was!!

So the afternoon tea was interesting, I expected it to be a lot easier but I found it to be really competitive and a bit more difficult. We had another group from the Assessment Centre the day before there so all up there was about 80 of us in a pretty small room and it was the hottest day Auckland had had in about 40 years – combine that with nerves, hot suits and a lot of waiting around!

Firstly you all go back to the room and watch another presentation on Jetstar were they give you more information about the job, including expected pay, hours, lifestyle considerations, etc. After that they set you free to grab tea/coffee from the front of the room and then you literally just find the nearest person or group and start a chat about anything you can think of; usually just about what they're doing work-wise at the moment, or have done in the past, and you just find stuff to talk about from there. There's one or two of the recruiters who hang about in the room to have a casual chat with people - normally just about the same stuff; I found it was good to ask them how long they'd been in the job and what positions they've held and show a bit of interest that way. They’re all very nice and welcoming so just be yourself, relax and have a good laugh. Try your best to fill those awkward gaps of silence too which can be tricky, and make sure to gracefully move on to another group of people after a bit of time, to show that you're interested in meeting and chatting with everyone in the room and not just a few that you've become "cushy" with!

While this is happening, they'll be inviting candidates out to another room one at a time per recruiter for a one-on-one interview. I found it to be very much like the one at the assessment centre but a little bit longer and with a different recruiter. Like the Assessment Centre they ask behavioural/scenario questions. They have a huge sheet of questions which I’m assuming they just pick about 5 from to ask you, put luck really. I was asked when I'd encountered an 'obstacle' at work (with a project, or customer, or workmate) and explain how I worked through or resolved it. And the other was to give an example about a time where I had to work in a close-knit team environment to achieve a goal or complete a task. I was also asked if I’d dealt with an emergency situation at work and if so how I dealt with it. I’m sure there was also another question about how why I wanted to work for Jetstar and what I thought about Jetstar’s branding etc. After you have your interview you’re free to go and they tell you to keep an eye out for an email with a medical form and security clearance form if you’re successful.

Mine came through about 3 day’s later which I’ve just completed. It’s very, very thorough; they test your hearing, urine, blood pressure, flexibility, heart, eyesight, blood etc. You’re also required to be immunized against measles and Hepatitis if you haven’t been. There’s also a lot of information to fill out on the security clearance like listing all of your residential addresses over the past 10 years, criminal convictions etc. It’s also very costly. The medical cost $200, Hep B injection $50, security clearance was another $150 NZD…. Plus all the other costs like having hair/nails done, buying a suit, stockings, shoes etc etc. I’d estimate that all up I’ve spent about $1200 just to get to this point and that doesn’t even cover hotel/flights if you don’t live central to where you’re being interviewed! Of course if I get through it’ll all have been worth it because for me, there’s nothing else in the world that I want to do with my life. I’m also a bit of a perfectionist and wanted to have a really, really nice suit for the day and a pair of unscuffed shoes… and nice nails so it probably cost me a whole lot more than it should have. I actually found that I was probably one of the most professionally dressed there as a lot of people dressed a lot more relaxed than I did. Anyway, at the moment though I’m worried about my blood pressure, I have a family history of it being high and also my eyesight without my glasses isn’t that good, I’m just hoping against hope that I’m within the acceptable range, otherwise I have no idea what I’ll do.

Also, I’ve heard from my referee’s that they’re being contacted at the moment and that it’s not just any normal reference check. As far as I can tell they’re asked a whole bunch of questions about my employment history with the given company which takes about 10 minutes for the referee to complete. Again, very, very thorough!!

I think though that getting past the assessment centre is the biggest hurdle cause they do a huge part of their culling of numbers on that first day and the morning tea I thought was more fine-tuning and shedding just a few more candidates. When you get through to the medical/security/reference check stage it’s out of your hands; you’ve done everything you can possibly do and the outcome is totally out of your control. They’re obviously happy with the way you’ve interviewed and think your appropriate for the job etc so it’s all up to fate and how the medical etc goes I suppose.

So a few tips… before the assessment centre I studied my arse off about Jetstar (which didn’t come up that often but was good to feel confident with before hand) and practiced interview questions in the week leading up to it. I think that was the thing that helped me more than anything else actually. To be prepared I wrote a list in Word of alllllll the possible interview questions I thought they could ask me (as well as questions I'd been asked at interviews in the past) and then I came up with answers that I wrote down underneath them and re-read over and over again so that I knew the jist of what I wanted to say when/if they asked them. I found that this was REALLY helpful because they ask a lot of behavioural/scenario questions and I found that I was really prepared and could think of examples right on the spot without feeling stuck or panicked. I also looked online a searched interview questions and possible answers because we all know how hard it is to answer questions like what is your weakness“ etc. I was very nervous but I guess I would have felt a hell of a lot more nervous if I hadn’t prepared.

Anyway, I hope this has really helped shed some light on the process if you’re feeling a bit apprehensive about it or wondering how things work or what they might ask at the interview etc. If you have any more questions feel free to ask and good luck! I know how hard it can all seem when you have a lot riding out the outcome, especially your dream. Good luck and let me know how it all goes!!!

Eye sight

Hi All,

After reading a few post I am now wondering if airlines do actually hire cc with bad eye sight?? I wear contact lenses and I don't feel that this would effect my ability to do the job but how do they view it?? Is there a limit to how short sighted you can be??

If any one knows I would really appreciate the info!

I wear glasses and I didn't have any problem. I had to test with my glasses off for my medical and I found it difficult to read the wall-chart which really made me nervous but I still passed.

Hi

I don't think QF has open days to have an interview...
QF Cabin Crew Australia Pty Ltd hasn't looked for new crews (Long haul)since Jan 2008, That's what I remember...
If you are interested to be an QF Cabin Crew, Visit this web site QF Cabin Crew Australia Pty Limited Recruitment: Attention
and keep eyes on this web site. At the moment they are just accepting interests...

JQ CNS Base

Hi Nextstep

I too applied for DRW and yep nothing at all . Rude or what ?
Well I have went for the interview in CNS got right through now awaiting for a yes or no as promist by JQ , But alass still nothing . 2 weeks latter yep still waiting. Sorry if i want to get my life sorted but hey !!!
Like all airlines they want you to jump through fire hoops naked and expect you will not burn anything. They really dont seem to care that a person who takes days of work to go for an interview , dream job. Not to meantion the cost of flights to get there and back !!!!!. What do they think you take it with a grain of salt . Come on now JQ get it sorted how hard can it be. You proceive yourself to many , many , many others who and what your about . Dont you see the long term damage your causing yourself's ?? If you think im a little scalled then yes to say the least .
Write to me soon this could be fun ....
Mean while good luck
