Helpful travel tips ?
Hello All,
After a good natter with a couple of pilots the other day someone mentioned a 'Revolut' pre paid debit card is useful when you don't want shafted by your bank for foreign currency transactions and silly exchange rates.
Anyone care to share any other helpful tips ?
Perhaps good apps for viewing films/tv when bored ?

For Uk residents - the Halifax "Clarity" credit card is good for that purpose - no charges / penalties and you don't need to pre-load it - just pay the bill at the end of the month and they give you the exchange rate of the day. Very easy and straightforward and since it's a credit card you get the benefit of credit card purchase protection too. (It's also good for any foreign currency purchases on the internet).
Other travel tip - If you're a UK driving licence holder, always have a couple of pre-prepared Licence Verification Codes printed out and shoved in your Nav-case. You never know when you might need a hire car and you can't always guarantee you'll be able to get on-line at the rental office. (The codes are valid for 21 days).

Always have at least one passport-foto with you - you might need it for a visa application after landing)

Keep vaccinations, as many as you can possibly imagine, that you think could be good for your operation/aircraft range up to date. I'm always amazed how many crew don't have vaccinations that are up to date.
Carry malaria tablets just in case you get flight to affected areas. If you regularly go to remote locations it's also a good idea to carry broad spectrum antibiotics.
I keep a private cash reserve of euro and US dollar, usually about 800-1000 of each. I always leave one credit card in hotel room or in aircraft when we have down time somewhere.
Carry some proof of emergency / travel / insurance, with contact details to an emergency hotline, in case you end up in an accident.

If you use your hotel room safe, put one of your shoes in it. It is easy to leave documents, wallets etc behind if in a hurry on departure, but hard to leave the hotel wearing only one shoe.
