Split duty doubt

Hello gents,
More and more my ops commands me or collegues for split duties out of the sudden, like pax late or any other circumstances they see, and asks to consider the time u are on the ground as split duty.
Can they do that?
My understanding of the rule tells me that split duty has to be programmed before the duty starts and it would even be logical being that how can i be prepared out of the sudden to consider the remaining of my time on the ground counting as half....

Any precise info or reference to eu-ops on that?
Thanks!

From what i know, they can force to do a spilt duty BUT you need to have a quiet place where you can have a decent rest. In other words, they should book you a hotelroom. Perhaps someone else can give you more info. But just saying that your waiting time with the FBO is considered as rest....... that is for sure a no go. Even with split duty, there are some limitations.

The split duty does not have to be planned before the FDP starts but it should be notified prior to the time that is being claimed as part of the split starts. To clarify, you can't have 4 hours on the ground and then declare it as split. As dboy states, the appropriate rest area needs to be arranged prior to the split starting.

Yes, I know the question was specific to eu-ops.

Just as an FYI, current regs on this side of the pond require notification of the intent of split duty prior to start of duty day. Surprised that isn't the case in eu-land?

Split duty regulations are defined by national CAA in Europe, so you have to check your ops manual to find the answer

Our in-house FOM requires split duty to be planned and nominated prior to the start of the duty period, which seems reasonable.
