Avoid all hotels in LUT! Agreed, Signature is pretty good.

Signature, in my opinion are over-priced and rather uncaring. Their FBO is dated. Be careful of buying gas there (if you care) as well, they'll try and sell it to you at their price which is at least $ 0.50/ USG more than you get on the market. Harrods get my vote.

Agreed on the hotels. Hilton Garden Inn is the best of a ropey lot.

What size aircraft are you looking at?
All three can give you good packages for handling and fuel combined but I find both Harrods and OceanSky easier to work with.

Despite OceanSky's issues with their charter/management sector, the handling sector has always been good but I wouldn't pay any money up front

OceanSky and Harrods have Bombardier trained engineers so you'll be fine wherever you go in Luton. Signature is right next door to Gulfstream but I think they have some Bombardier engineers too.

Can let you have some contact details of the guys at all the handlers so you can compare if you like.

Finally, if your passengers like nice new lounges then Harrods is the one to go to.

Although not in the game any more I was recently invited to the re-opening of some upgraded facilities at Cranfield which is only just up the road from Luton. I was impressed and they are in bed with Sig LTN so you get a cheaper airfield with Sig LTN service. Might be worth a look as it could save your owner some pennies.

Regards

Luton Hotels

The Luton Hoo is, shall we say, interesting. The Hilton Garden in Luton North is the best. I know crews that claim staying in Harpenden is a good deal, never tried it. Harrid's for ground services.

We are regular visitors to LTN, and last year we flip-flopped between Ocean Sky and Signature.

Although they have prefab buildings as the FBO, Ocean Sky has a nice modern feel to it on the inside, but we felt they were lacking a little in terms of functionality, and having to move between two buildings in the rain to get to the OPS/FIN side of things was a pain. No complaints about the service though, very professional, and very helpful staff when it came to gathering information on accom etc. Our principal, however did not like Ocean Sky, and we have moved over to Signature full time.

On the Signature side of things, I agree that the building is dated and somewhat cramped if there are a few aircraft worth of crew and pax waiting in the lounge. I have to commend the service we get from them though, absolutely brilliant, no matter what the request. Great OPS dept who can do magic when required, and they really do have lovely ladies getting the job done at the coalface. For us it helps that they have GAC right across the ramp, and there seems to be good coordination between the two. Few places can turn you around in 35 mins on a tech stop.

We have not yet tried Harrods, so I cannot comment on that.

As for accom, we have tried all around the area, and Harpenden comes out tops for our requirements. We like the Harpenden House Hotel. Just off the main drag , and within 5 mins walk of 6-10 pubs, 15 restaurants, ample take away shops and Sainsburies. Good internet, spacious rooms if you stay away from the main building. Quick 5 min walk to the train station, and 25 mins into Kings Cross station. H-House also gives you access to Harpers Fitness, a two min walk away. A very very nicely set up health club with a serious gym, indoor pools, tennis courts, and lots of nice scenery. - all included in the Harpenden House package. Harpenden in the summer is awesome, everyone is outside and the chilled frosties abound.

Pretty much agree with most of everything here. Signature good, a lot better than most other UK Signatures. OCS good also. Not used Harrods, though I'm told don't park your car there, is this still true?

I like the Hoo, but very remote. Dislike Luton immensely so may try your suggestion pirate. Sometimes get the train to St Pancras which is pretty easy.

Miles I have to comment on your post. Been to Cranfield a lot, and the poor excuse for an FBO was very poor. Did nothing to justify their cost, parked miles away from it, didnt even get weather from the staff. No where close to sig Luton levels of service.

Signature have just got planning permission for a new hangar behind the cargo ramp and a new FBO after the old hangars are taken down.

Harrods are nice.

Remember not to leave your aircraft with your parking brake set, if you don't want to be called out at midnight...
They have limited parking space and move around the aircraft as it fits them.

Signature

Had a meeting with one of their senior people just last week. The new facility is stunning. It will be the nicest FBO in their entire network. New hangar up towards the end of next year and new FBO complete by end of 2014. Long overdue but worth the wait from what I could see! LTN Man, I saw that pic and many others - really nice!
