TSA approval

Thank you Gents regarding clearing up the CJ1/CJ2 differences issue.

With reference to training in the States has anyone had varying approval times for
TSA approval for Cat 1 training (ie first type rating-non US citizen) ?

Would a month suffice from course booking to TSA approval ?

Best Wishes.

Here is the link on the why's and wherefore's.

If it turns out that you do need to submit a TSA request, if this is your first request then you will also need to submit fingerprints when requested (not before).
Once the TSA have all the material - the request then goes into TSA's state of:

Category 1 Candidates now enter the 30 day wait period for approval

So there is the potential that 30 days may not be sufficient time - but mileage varies.

Gomrath has it right. I've struggled with this for years and still do every 6 months.

30 days might not be enough time... the TSA works on their own schedule and are not particularly good at customer service....a hurry-up situation is not in their playbook.

Best thing to work with your account manager or customer service folks at the training center. They know the drill and the shortcuts.

Good luck.

KSJC has the right answer. As part of the service all the training companies will sort out the TSA stuff for you - at least, in my experience that is the case. They want your business, and they understand that the TSA is their problem, not yours.

I did my first one years ago when they first introduced the requirement and got the approval 5 days after the fingerprinting.

Make sure you go somewhere with the very advanced digital fingerprint scanners and not the crappy little ones hooked up to a laptop or anywhere that relies on ink (if thats even still an option) - otherwise you face the possibility that they'll subsequently say they're not good enough and you have to do it again.

The last two approvals I've done have been Cat 4 (recurrent) and I've been lucky enough to get the approval literally within hours of all the information being submitted.
