Watch out for GainJet in Athens
sorry to be a bearer of bad news, folks, but I continue to have a hard time collecting earned fees from Gainjet, S.A. in Athens. The amount is over US$10,000 now with interest. Yes, I had a contract and even got an advance retainer. But, with parent company apparently being Kuwaiti Int'l airways, the chance of collecting is slim. My advice to all contract pilots: get 100% of what's expected in advance.
Gainjet had a major pilot turnover issue last January, with their Director of Ops and Director of Training both leaving under mysterious circumstances.
Although they operate a MD-83, some G200s, and a few large cabin Gulfstreams, they are a fly-by-night outfit, so forewarned is forearmed. 'nuf said.

To locust, post 6 on this thread.
Oh so true... Unfortunately! Thats why the worlds economy is all screwed up. Its all a big scam. You wan't to make some money? Work for it, invent something. Money just plain doesn't grow on trees. It is not as simple as monopoly money or pressing a key in you computer!! You would have thought this need not be explained to Banks, construction companies, financial companies or for that case governments. But as you say, its a Peter and Paul thing. The Peters in this world economy scam are the middle class.
And where is all this non existent money that has been used by banks and diverse companies to buy other companies and construct more and more come from? The SUCKER middle class that have paid absurd prices for property that is now worth much less. The same middle class that paid the taxes that are now paying for the bank bailouts. The same middle class that are now losing their jobs.
It's all a big rip off!!
Plain and simple!
Rant over.

havoc727, the original poster's name is OURANIA and he CAN spell!
The heads-up on this operator is exactly what PPRuNe is all about.....to give other people a chance to avoid the potholes that others have fallen into. Thanks Ourania......I am warned.

havoc727, just for the record, I am only one person!
I wish you and your locust buddy all the best, but you too (and two!) will eventually discover that not everyone who offers you a job is as white as snow. Unfortunately there are several companies who feel that a contract is not worth the paper it is written on, and that failing to pay crew is an acceptable way to carry on business.
It is dishonest, disreputable, disgusting, and those involved (and those who condone it) should be named and shamed on PPRuNe.
P.S. Loved Athens....never heard of Gainjet.

I'm not entirely sure what the meaningless, emoticon with the wagging finger post is all about but if anyone should be told 'uh-uh' it's you. Your attack on ourania was uncalled for and downright rude.
I'm assuming you resent him/her accepting a job in Greece, well I've some news for you. In our industry we work in other countries all the time and frankly I'd say you've more chance of finding a job outside Greece than in it. If you're going to play the protectionist you've more to lose than gain. Berating ourania for working there is pointless and petty, you owe him/her an apology.
I do. By all accounts ourania got ripped off by a low-life who shouldn't be allowed to work in this industry and whose reputation should be spread far and wide to save others from being screwed too. If you were on the receiving end you'd be wailing from the rooftops. Grow up.

I give respect where it's due and earned. Needless to say you've excluded yourself from both categories. ourania was trying to help the rest of us, you are merely being childish.
Show some manners and apologise to ourania for your unwarranted attack. Dubai? Yeah, right

Folks.
I'm a great believer in self moderation. Sometime we post in haste or the heat of the moment and should be grateful when we are given the opportunity to rectify things. I'd rather that than wield the big mod stick however some people can't see when they've been given that chance even when they receive a private message telling them so.
Where's my stick?
Duck
