Biz Jets, Ag Flying, GA etc.The place for discussion of issues related to corporate, Ag and GA aviation. If you're a professional pilot and don't fly for the airlines then try here.
You appear to be carrying a large bag of potatoes!
1. Are you a practising professional pilot?
2. You make a statement about a poorly regulated cottage industry etc etc- yes that is what we have to work with - we do not create it, some of us are fighting to improve it and raise standards etc. Quite often resisted by ops/beancounter type people who have no concept of what it involves at the sharp end, and furthermore display no interest in finding out. Pilots are seen as expensive but unfortunately necessary commodities, who are to be exploited to the letter and limit and more. Sadly old chap, this is the aviation industry- if you have a problem with pilots you are missing the point, as good, bad or indifferent they are currently necessary, and your biggest asset apart from the long thin fast tin tube that they flash around in. I make no apology that we are expensive - it is a specialist niche profession with massive risk for everybody. As for uniform - you want me to wear it, you provide it - it is your corporate image. Medical - mandated by the authorities, also one of my 12 month work permits, gone at the stroke of a pen. My LPC/OPC - another 6/12 month work permit - gone if I have a bad day. My licence - gone, if I do not resist when company leans hard on me to execute a missold charter, that subsequently goes wrong and ends up with a violation or an accident/incident. Oh I nearly forgot - I get laid off, my LPC expires - guess who needs to foot the bill unless I get lucky. As for for expenses etc I could list numerous times when they have not been paid. 4 star hotels - can't remember the last one, but I do remember the split duties, with 7 hours and no facilities where ops expect you to sit in Macdonalds, as they refused to book day rooms. Company credit card - can't trust you with one of them, use your own card - we will refund you. Mobile phone - use your own. Fuel - put it on your debit card. This is the environment we frequently work with.
You my friend, do not live with these pressures. Another ops job - relatively easy and inexpensive to come by, by comparison.
Having recently come off a 17 hour duty, where the trip was missold, misrepresented, and where we had to spend a lot of time digging very deep to make it work, to save the company a lot of embarrassment (financial and otherwise), I consider I earned my money, and paid a price for it too. This is not uncommon either.
VJ is no different from any other operator, the wheel is not there to be re -invented. JR will be the same, and many more will follow.
If you take some time to engage at a meaningful level with your flight crews, and create a constuctive and healthy dialogue, you may improve your chance of business success. However if you overtly display the sentiments previously posted here I do not think you will cultivate many allies. Like it or not we too have a vested interested in making things work -we need you, and you need us. Working together has the possibility to create synergy, and that is what will contribute towards success.
A friend of a friend (Hee, it is a gossip website) who was in the selection, told me that during the selection it was stated that only airline guys and ex military pilots would qualify, like it states on PPJN.
The tone of how this was said was not so friendly.
Out of the 13 attendees, 3 got in...
14 pilots employed or signed a contract ? so we should have news about T&C, salary, roster and so on....how long is the a'ssessment, 2 days, 3 days ?
what kind of bond is if you'r not type rated?
Does anybody knows who is the arse....brain who makes the selection? If that is true (ex-military and airline) better they close the business and go somewhere else, this is not US or Mexico and they will run out of pilots when the get to 10 hired, sorry to say but they are not the ones who will fit in this business, NJE experienced that a time ago and only a little very capable and open mind airline guys were able to fit in it, the rest left in a glimpse.
Gosh, guys named after a cheese???? I hate them.(although there are exceptions, that guy Gorgonzola isn't a bad sort)
Mate are you for real?
Didn't your mother tell you not to make sweeping generalisations about people based on their race, colour, sexual orientation or employment background......
i was in the selection a couple of weeks ago..out of 12 pilots they kicked out first all airlines guys..and they want you to sign a bond for the training ... shame..
if you pass they send you a mail asking for your bank account data so that they can take back the money they "will spend for your tranining" , this even befor they let you see or sign a contract...fools...
