SEARCH BEFORE POSTING PLEASE

The average PPRuNe member logs in, scans the forum, reads a few threads, makes a post or two then leaves.

We moderators log in, read our PMs, read those threads which have been reported by members, check the admin forum for instructions from Head Office, respond to the threads in the admin forums, check which threads have new posts (often we manage more than one forum each), check each new post for libellous/unacceptable material/thread drift and the like, check for posts from new members that need approval then notice that since we logged in new posts have appeared in the threads we first moderated so go back to the beginning.........................it's like painting the Forth Bridge. Then and only then can we begin to use the site in our capacity as 'normal' members.

Each new thread is extra work for us, work that we do not get paid for and when it is clear that the starter of a new thread has made no attempt whatsoever at researching their question it becomes somewhat frustrating. Over the last few days new threads have sprung up when at least some of the questions could have been answered with minimal effort. I know T&C's change with time and up to date information is best but there are clear examples of simple laziness.

If you can't be bothered to spend time researching your career please don't expect the other members of this forum to carry you. Starting a post with "I know there is a search function but I thought I would ask..." is a sure fire way of inviting howls of derision from other members before having your thread deleted.

Your co-operation is appreciated.

As these are anonymous forums the origins of the contributions may be opposite to what may be apparent. In fact the press may use it, or the unscrupulous, or sciolists*, to elicit certain reactions.

*"sciolist"... Noun, archaic. "a person who pretends to be knowledgeable and well informed".
