Commercial, older design, some upgraded instruments?

Bit industrial so maybe 1945-60?

4 engined

Looks American to me

I think it might be British at the front, American at the back…

Are we looking at a Carvair with up dated instruments.
I remember seeing "Plane Jane" at Willow Run in 1991.

A nose Heater! Smacks of a first generation radar nose. Four jets and windows not resembling Douglas heritage. Convair 880?

Looks like there was a hot air connection to the nose for airframe de-icing, or was it just a freight deck heater? Was the wx radar was mounted under the windscreens?

Any retired BAF, Ansett etc posters out there able to add anything?
8 out 21 destroyed in crashes is sobering…

I think the nose heater was for anti ice. With a blunt front like that I think it could pick up quite a lot of ice.
We are waiting for confirmation of the type from MARK9263.

Consensus seems to agree it’s an Aviation Traders Carvair, Mark. You’re welcome!

Dixi, all yours I think?
