1611 Flight RAF

Good morning everybody.

I seek your help please.

I am looking for general information about 1611 (Anti-aircraft Co-operation) Flight and it's time at RAF Bircham Newton before it was amalgamated into 695 Sqn (late 1943).

Any information would be useful (ie. role, aircraft operated (if any), significant events etc.).

Thanks very much for your time.

Regards,

Scotty

Scotty,
Ghost Fields of Norfolk records that 1611 / 1612 flights were at Bircham Newton in 1942/3.They were using Hawker Henleys for target tug duties. That's all I can find.
I assume you've tried the Action Stations / Action Stations Revisited series?

The City Bookshop in Norwich hold a lot of mini-publications on local airfields in WW2. Perhaps they might have something there after lockdown ends next week?

Apart from the above I'm afraid I can't offer more.

Thanks very much for your response Bob. Yes, I have tried all the usual places that you suggest, all bar the City Bookshop which I will hunt out the next time I'm in Norwich.

I have a document on order from the National Archive (AIR/880/11) which might throw up some information. I don't hold up much hope of getting this any time soon though, due to the current restrictions.

Regards,

Scotty

Scotty, you need to look up the "Bible" for such information, "Training & Support Units of the RAF" by Wing Commander G C "Geoff" Jefford, although unfortunately I do not possess a copy of this invaluable reference book). Don't think there is anything out there on the web that comes remotely close to the general usefulness of this particular book.
