Admiral Prune?1?

Seems that PO Prune had a relative in the Navy?

Photo is of Lancaster 1 W4118/ZN-Y of 106 squadron at Syerston in November 1942.. Guy Gibson often flew this plane when the squadron CO though the pilot shown is PO Jimmy Cooper.
106 Squadron often laid sea mines and so had several naval officers attached which lead to several of their aircraft getting 'Admiral' prefixed nicknames.

'Admiral Prune' was lost 4/5 February 1943 on a raid to Turin.

The Admiral naming convention went back further than this when Gibson was flying with 83 Sqn - Morris's book explains how it came about.

Admiral Prune I was replaced with Admiral Prune II (ED593) after it was lost and survived the war.

Eight aircraft from XV Squadron flew to Turin 4/2/43 One BF 439 LS D was painted by Philip West commissioned by Mr R A Fellows. The original oil painting showing this Stirling with its all Sergeant crew is part of his collection.
