ARAVCO ?
Hi...just a small question and help, wich Google cant give me an helping hand, please.
Besides operating again these very days, ARAVCO started around late 70's at UK. Does anyone know if the word ARAVCO is any short, Abrev. or acronym to anything?

They operated a wide range of types at various times.
From their former website:
"Based at the renowned Farnborough Airport in Hampshire, the company has operated more types of executive aircraft than any other UK operator including: Boeing 727, BAC 1-11, Gulfstream GII, GIII and GV, Falcon 50 and 900, Hawker 125 and Learjets."

I never quite worked out what aircraft Aravco owned or just managed but their portfolio was very extensive. They were a nice company to deal with (Robin Brodhurst, Michael Gee, "Mac", Stuart). At some time I'm sure they had 2 or 3 Fokker 70's at Farnborough but somebody may correct me. I seem to remember the 125 in Ras al Khaimah was A6-RAK? Maybe followed by the 1-11?
In recent years I'm not clear of their relationship as Murray Law of International Jet Club was a Director of Aravco as well. This may or may not have been transferred when Hangar8 bought IJC.
All beyond my simple understanding.

There were 3 ex US Airways Fokker 100s parked at Farnborough in 2004/5 with the intention of being converted to bizjet configuration. They eventually all flew out (Stansted I think) and never came back.
Alastair Taggart was the chief pilot for a while; he had Farnborough 'form' as he'd been a TP there and eventually became OC Flying at Bedford.

Yes I can confirm it stood for Arab Aviation Consultants AR AV CO. A well respected company run by Geoff Broadhurst and later his son Robin. I remember Alan McDonald and Jim Vigar (Jim was Chief Pilot for a while); Jim later freelanced for us at FJC when he left Aravco. I believe Jim is still around; his wife Biddy died a few years ago; Mike Bradbury (ex-FJC) occasionally meets for lunch with Jim. Alan McDonald or Mac was a great chap; always had lots of time for him. I also know Mike Palmer (now at EJC); does anyone remember 'Cathy' she appeared in the late 1980's / early 1990's and became over night it seemed their Operations Manager? What became of her? A very attractive girl as I recall, very Sloane Ranger in appearance!
Although they sold and managed many aircraft for middle eastern clients one of their best clients was BAT (British American Tobacco) who had several HS 125's under management with ARAVCO over the years.
ARAVCO's AOC is still going; under Murray Law's company; Jet Club; he purchased it after the company closed down I believe?

Mike Echo; do you remember the lovely Angela Shipwright? Formerly at Fields / Hunting she went on briefly to Aravco in the early 2000's. I bumped into her a few times during meetings at FAB; what became of her?

Who could forget Angela, I know got married but I don't think I have any information where she is now. I know someone who probably does so will ask. "Cathy" I sort of remember wasn't she suppose to go to Philadelphia to get married but it fell apart - or have I got the wrong?

A bit late to all of this, but recently any aircraft of IJC's that were on an AOC, were actually on the ARAVCO AOC. I don't know if this has changed over time with the H8 integration.

Hello Little Mac; so sorry to hear of your dad's departing earlier this year; no doubt he is up in heaven now with Broad discussing the old days at Aravco! Mac certainly knew his job and worked very hard for the company, so I had great respect for him. It was the likes of Aravco, my old firm FJC, IDS aircraft, McCalpine Aviation who were effectively the pioneers of the business jet world and set many procedures and standards that have been carried on in today's 'modern world'. RIP Mac.
