So many 47s

As I enter the last year of my working life, I’ve been amusing myself with counting down the weeks by changing my desktop background to illustrate the numbers ticking off.

Week 47 has provided me with a cornucopia. Dakota – Thunderbolt – Chinook – Stratojet, there may be more.

Not wanting to be predictable, I ended up with a choice between these two:

I think I’ll alternate.

If anyone would like to nominate a 46 for next week, please be my guest.

A de Havilland DH 46 Dove perhaps?

Google Image Result for http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/8b/De_Havilland_DH-104_Dove_(D-IFSA).jpg/300px-De_Havilland_DH-104_Dove_(D-IFSA).jpg

What is the plane in your bottom photo? It's a new one to me, but has a distinct Fairey look. My Dad trained as O/N in Swordfish and various others, his pilot was Laurence Olivier.

Congratulations on your impending retirement mate.

The Germans were particularly good with numbers. My mother was a devout Lutheran and we were marched into church every Sunday. Each sermon showed the impending Hymn numbers on a large board and I entertained myself by trying to match the numbers with German aircraft. Needless to say I am destined for hell.

Did you come across the Focke-Wulf Fw 47 in your week 47 quest? This should be a fun thread retirement countdown mate!

Another 47 is the Venerable Bell - the 47!

How about the Curtiss C-46 Commando?

Ah yes, of course, I used to like the C-46. As a spotter, I went for years without seeing one, although there were a few around. Finally started seeing the N-reg examples used by Lufthansa for freight services into Heathrow.

Although for next week, maybe a Fred Olsen one - as an example of what happens when you put a pretty colour scheme on a brute of an aircraft.

You must include one of these at some time.
Hmm. If I'm not mistaken, that's a PBV (Canso).

You might want to read post #1 again, to see how the thread works ...

Looked remarkably like a PBY-5 to me, would be my five week choice... Or even week 28 if you prefer to go with Consolidated's design number...

Or save it for the OP's final week, as technically it's a PBV-1A (the V indicating it's the Canadian Vickers-built version of the PBY).
