Capt H.A. 'Sam' Brown - Avro CTP
Hi all,
I wonder if anyone has a copy of the book Avro Test Pilots (thay may have the information) or may know the year of birth and passing of Avro CTP H.A 'Sam' Brown, and also what his christian names were?
I am also looking for the years for Bill Humble and Phillip Lucas ex Hawkers. If there are any copies of obituaries, that would be a great assistance.
Any help appreciated

H A Brown, how little has been recorded about him! The easy bit; he joined the Company in 1928. At the begining of June 1945, he was signed as medically unfit to fly. After a time as Flight Test Manager, he retired to his deceased Mother's house in Kent. In April 1953 he sadly collapsed and died soon afterwards. From the 3 AVRO history books I accessed, I gained those facts from "Avro, The History of an Aircraft Company" by Harry Holmes. None of them gave a clue to the Captain's age nor his christian names.
Offered for what it's worth.

Sorry to threadjack but I noticed the thread title and mention of the Avro Test Pilots book.
Does anyone know if said book mentions anything on Frederick Basil Tomkins who I believe was a pre and post war Avro test pilot?
All the info I've been able to find is a few mentions in the London Gazette and Flight magazine but I'm trying to find some more personal details of his life as I'm trying to write a small two or three page biography on him.

The Holmes book has a couple of small photographs that include "Tommy" Tomkins and mentions that he assisted "Bill" Thorn with the 1st flight of the prototype 652A (Anson MK1). No other mention.

This reminds me of a book I've been trying to get hold of at a sensible price: Avro Test-Pilots Since 1907 Vol 1, From Alliott Verdon-Roe To Sam Brown by Clegg P. ISBN 978 1 870384 544
