Not that, but send her (not alone for f's sake) to a brief peek at Murmansk the next time Putin sends bears along. That would be a feat!
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WHOLE TEAM AND TRULY HATS OFF AND HIP HIP HOORAY!! Once again a stunning display of the unique virtue of the British - the respect to one's own history.
Well done all - especially my old muckers Taff Stone and Dave Thomas. I look forward to sharing a beer to celebrate when I get back from the desert - I'm sooo sad that I missed this in person...
But was there any reason why the vulcan is held in such regard to be restored yet the other great v bird the victor is not ??
Yes I know we made 3 v birds because British was best then (although the valiants didn't last). But apart from black buck, why the vulcan over the victor ?
Is there an engineering issue that makes it easier ? or would prevent a victor leaving terra firma
Also does that victor at elvington still make runs ? (there might be even more for all I know)
Brings back memories of Abingdon show just after the Falklands and the most amazing Vulcan display I have ever seen and HEARD!!
That howl was something else just as the Starfighter was when throttled back on a downwind leg when the air was very humid totally unforgetable

I believe (happy to be corrected) that the last Victor's were virtually time ex'd anyway, which given BAe would have had to be on board as per XH558, would have made a return to the air of one an even bigger money pit than XH558, as well as lack of spares availability including any engines.
Remember the VDF had pretty much the remaining stock of Vulcan spares, which went with her as part of the buy from the MoD IIRC including 8 zero time engines, which has helped considerably in the prospect of getting her in the air again.
Not a situation that happened with any of the Victors that went to Brunty, Elvington etc.
.....If you listened to the sky newsman, Jeff, it was XH855! What a plonker! One would have thought it possible to get that bit right. Clearly he wasn't an enthusiast, and not at all impressed with the lottery money spent on the project.
I wonder if there might have been 2.7million lottery players who wanted to see her restored to flying condition? I would have thought so!
Well Done Dave and crew!! Well done!! (lucky buggers!!)
(I don't mind not winning the big one now, after seeing the old girl back in the sky! This weekend though would be great thanks!!)
I think it's time we put Sky's 'XH855' comments to bed.
The guy was winging it on live TV and was thrown over by the anchor just as the Vulc was rotating, so I think we should cut him some slack. He had a lot on his hands.
No matter how many times you're pushed in front of a camera for a living, it's still a muddle holding it all together during a live broadcast. Sounded like he was fairly overwhelmed himself.
