Perhaps it hasn't gripped the country quite like we thought it might. It's too late for the London flypast & too late for any airshows so, the majority don't care.

Lovely sight. Can't wait to see it in action with the undercarriage up as it pulls up & over banks... Proper Vulcan take off!

Just had a quick text with a chum at Sky and they're splicing together a piece to be shown in the next 15 minutes.

Keep watching...

Wonderful Stuff! I have not posted on this thread before as I felt and feared, like some others, that this mighty bird would never fly again. However, that's because I'm weak spirited and many others are not. It's fantastic to be proved wrong! Looking forward to seeing the mighty Vulcan again soon as the last time I saw it in the skies was (appropriately enough) was at RAF Scampton during my time there in the early 90s. I'll need to get some money out now!

Awesome

How awesome to see the flying flat-iron take to the air once more.
Many congrat's to the engineers and crew involved!
Time for a further contribution to funds, methinks.

Tombstone? There's a lot of guys here trying to "out" you!
Footage on the 6 o'clock news?

Talking Tombstone's Quote

To refresh your memories:
Quote:
I will walk around every into each Sqn crewroom at Marham, naked with a rose between my arse cheeks, singing a song of your choice if the Vulcan ever flies again.

Not posted before, but enjoy the forum immensely, and couldn't resist this in the "things one wishes one hadn't said" category....

Isn't it due time someone quoted tombstone again just for posterity?
I presume this is the posterity in question....

Beagle & Tim,

The project is almost as badly as some of the tasks carried out on the BBC's 'The Apprentice'.

The 250k won't do anything other that keep the project milling over at its woefully slow pace.

There is very little commercial backing for the Vulcan
(the killer blow IMHO)

Aircraft such as the B17 & Lancaster should and will always get the funding (if only just) as they contributed towards our freedom in such a way that the Vulcan does not come close to. The nuclear detterent was obviously an important aspect of the UK's cold war defence however, I don't think you can compare an a/c that held Nuclear QRA with an a/c that men died in over Germany IMHO.

The Black Buck missions were a great achievment however, there impact on the outcome of the conflict was arguably a minor one. This being the only actual combat the Vulcan participated in, I don't think it merits an endless supply of funding to get it flying for a year or two.

Perhaps any funding heading towards the Vulcan would be better suited for looking after our veterans.
Marvellous to hear and follow the news on PPRuNe - the internet gatway thingy at work bars us from all useful live communication, except the likes of this forum - thanks to those who kept posting with the news!

Yup, just spoke to a mate about Tombstone's promise.....and asked him to make Sky News aware of it!

Next I think I'll drop an e-mail to the Chief Editor of a certain newspaper - with whom I have previously corresponded.....

Seriously though, it is good to know that the number of serviceable strategic bombers owned by the UK has just doubled.

One Lanc - and now one Vulcan!

Were Torpid or Loadie present today? I guess not - it wasn't a TypHoon after all.

Pedantic old duffer that I am. Does anyone have the official airborne and landing times? I know I should have it to hand but when did she arrive at Bruntingthorpe. I am so happy I cant find a thing.
Well done everyone.
Be lucky

FACT, the BBC must be right.

A Vulcan Bomber based at RAF Waddington took off today in Leicestershire.

The first of three test flights from RAF Bruntingthopre.

And we wonder why we have problems with defence?

Be fair BEags and try not to be so cynical/bitter in every post you make - neither CAS or CINCAIR would have been invited (as I'm sure neither were any of the Armed Forces Ministers). It is a private venture after all is it not? Surprised you weren't there mind ....
