QRA at Leconfield

Can any of you historians confirm if the Lightnings held QRA at Leconfield. If they did, would anyone know if they operated from QRA sheds and where on the airfield these sheds were situated?

Thanks

John

I suspect you are looking for info for the period during the 1960s? Cannot help you there, but I do remember when 5 and 11 squadron visited (twice?) while Binbrooks runway was being resurfaced in the 1970s, they were often on QRA. You don't forget being woken during the early hours by a Lightning! During this period there were no QRA sheds on the airfield.

QRA at Leconfield

Thanks for your responses. I found out from another source that 19 and 92 Sqns did indeed stand QRA at Leconfield prior to their move to Gutersloh. There were no QRA sheds.

Nos 5 and 11 Sqns also stood QRA at Leconfield when they bolt-holed from Binbrook.
