So apparently this happened today

I'm surprised they didn't use one of the Mineralogy ones slowly rusting away up near 14/32... be a disappointing find when you unwrapped it though

Festive season travellers were greeted with what appeared to be an extravagant gift at Brisbane Airport on Wednesday morning – a gift-wrapped airliner.
But anybody wondering whether it was a Christmas gift from a particularly wealthy person to a particularly lucky one would have been disappointed to learn it was just a publicity stunt.
The Alliance Airlines Fokker 70 was decked out in blue wrapping paper in an eyecatching campaign for a lottery company.
The 80-seat plane was parked on the tarmac in front of Brisbane's busy domestic terminal as part of creative agency GPY&R's "dream gift" campaign for Powerball.
"We wanted this year's Christmas campaign to capture maximum eyeballs and engage with travellers in a fun way," GPY&R Brisbane executive creative director Brendan Greaney said.
"Also, I wouldn't mind if someone gave me a private jet."
The campaign was designed to be social media-led.
To that end, it appeared successful on Wednesday, with several travellers – and the airport itself – tweeting their images.

So they claim to always to be looking for ways to "reduce their environmental impact".

Wow, Christmas really brings out the scrooges don't it? It's an ad campaign, it did the job it was meant to go, hopefully gave some people a smile and a chuckle and they'll probably recycle the wrapping paper afterwards, big woop everyone!

It isn't the wrapping-paper that concerns me, it's the astronomical cost of posting something (anything) these days. Can you imagine fronting the counter at your local PO with one of those and saying "How much to send this?" It probably won't fit on the scales, and it's a tad too big to go into the letter-box as well.
It really is a problem, which probably explains why you just don't see many gift-wrapped jet airliners these days. Mind you, President-elect Trump might want his next airliner similarly presented. Special commemorative "Air Force One" wrapping-paper anyone?
