Trade in Services Agreement - Aviation
This one seems to passing by with very little attention in the aviation industry.
From wikileaks, it looks like some big changes possible in liberalisation and deregulation of the Air Transport sector.

Could the US and EU in particular, see this as a means to stymie the growth of Middle East Carriers?

Wow! Potentially the biggest change to the Australian Aviation Industry in a generation and not a single reply? really?
This is an agreement being negotiated by governments, behind closed doors with absolutely NO input from the aviation industry (for Australia's position). The potential ramifications of which will only be felt after it is signed, sealed and delivered; with no going back. This has the potential to override Bilateral Agreements, Australian Law, CASA regulations (oversight and determination) and see potentially thousands of aviation jobs vanish, all under the guise of "free trade". Lets not even go into the potential aviation safety ramifications as we lower ourselves to world standards (ie. minimum).
Wake up people! This is not a conspiracy theory, this is real! Write to your Unions, write to your Federal MP's (not that they would even comprehend what is happening)!
My take is that the Aviation Agreement of the TISA is central to a US/European led move to block Middle Eastern Airline expansion. Unfortunately, Australia is a mere pawn in the game (which our government negotiators don't appreciate) and our relatively small aviation industry has the most (pretty much everything) to lose.
Anyway, back to more important stuff like a pi$$ing contest over the ability to fly a visual approach from SHEED!

Let's stick to the facts, if the agreement resulted in the Australian safety record improving to at least equal the US air safety record, we should and would all be thankful.
Tootle pip!!
