Qantas Tech crew Sydney Parking

The new sign on at the airport from December will now have us catching a bus From QCC departing every 10 mins, in what sounds like a landside route. This route in peak times takes approx 20 mins. I fail to understand how our cabin crew park at the airport to sign on at the same location yet we will now need to allow an extra 20 - 35 mins for sign on. Avoiding QCC is a plus, but not having to even lay eyes on it would be even better.

How about you park over at long term with QLink and Jetstar. The bus runs whenever it feels like it and you get to say hi to the passengers.

I have the same issue with travel times to work.

If the company rosters me to fly on the weekend, I can usually drive to the airport in about 30 minutes.

However if they schedule me to start during peak hour on a Monday thru Friday I have to allow up to 60 minutes to get to work.

It's so unfair that I loose that 30 minutes on those weekdays.

I think we should go to fair work Australia to reduce our travel times to work.

Maybe even try to get an exemption for Airline Pilots travelling to/from work in school zones. Slowing down to 40km/hr just wastes my time.

Maybe fair work will nominate our report time as the time we leave our place of residence.

As a norm I used to get to work around 20mins before sign on - that allowed a nice non-rushed flight planning. That extra 20 mins will now be used to travel to the domestic airport from QCC and get a coffee - it will still allow a nice non- rushed flight planning - which will commence no earlier than the exact sign on time, with the plane perhaps getting away a bit later than it would of.

...but who are we kidding even then - it only takes 10 mins to run through the notams and chuck on an extra tonne or two of fuel.

Also don't forget, whilst they may not pay you more, the flight time limitations I believe start when duties associated with work commence - that may now be earlier if you have to get to earlier QCC to account for the transport across.

Further to this i believe that the buses will soon become self drive. ie you drive yourself over to the terminal with or without other crew and leave it for the next crew to return to QCC. Further again in another ground breaking event managment have decided that buses will revert to the Flintstones era with pedals at all seats to allow crew to get exercise and save valuable fuel!!!

You may purchase bus tickets on "staff travel online"

A booklet of 9 single journeys costs $90.

On each journey a hole will be punched on your ticket & the 10th journey is free.

Consult terms & conditions of the ticket, as it includes small carry on items only.

Larger articles placed in the trailer will incur additional charges.

Please be aware if insufficient loads make a return trip economically unviable.

The service will be cancelled and you will be wait listed on the next available service.

If you find a cheaper travel alternative between QCC & International, staff travel will beat it by 10%

MC.

Yep. Just like me. I may be a mere engineer but how inconvenient that I must travel and extra 12 minutes on mon-fri dayshifts to get to work? Oh then again if I start at 4am or do overtime until 4am, it's even quicker to get home..... so unfair that I don't get paid for the extra time to get to work on mon-fri dayshift.

Maybe I will get over it..... already did.

back to my beer.

Smile

I think you've come to the wrong place, correcting - particularly if you're looking for sympathy.

As far as I'm aware, almost all pilots working at YSSY have to endure the long term car park drive of shame on the public bus, as rmcdonal wrote.

Be happy you get your own bus
