So, let me get this straight,

AJ earns $5,000,000 per year, lets be generous and say he works a normal 37.5 hour working week. This make his hourly rate approx: $2564 per hour.

Lets use the top of the tree A380 Captain who AIPA recently confirmed approx $410,000 per year. So if they earn the same hourly rate as AJ then they are only working 3 hours per week .

Even if AJ is working 75 hours per week then he is saying his pilots only work 6 hours a week.

Honestly, what has happened to the media in this day and age, how can someone make such a ludicrous statement without any challenge whatsoever.

If he screws up he leaves with a golden parachute, if a Captain screws up people die.

I worked it out at 365 days a year, allowing him 6 hours sleep anight, it comes in at 761 ph.

For the 380 captain, i grabbed a figure out of the air of 410k / 500 hours, it comes to 820ph.

Seem likely to you?

Even if you say a 380 captain who is a Blank line holder. Say 350k for 350 credit hours a year. Still $1000 an hour. N.B that the above captain is available to do 900 hrs.

AJ. 5,000,000 75hr week 52 weeks a year is still $1282

To get to the same number you need to earn 380k for 297hrs work. HMMMMM I think not.

It's shocking that such a high profile (and extremely well paid) CEO has such a poor command of basic arithmetic. He's probably relying on all the journos also having poor mathematics skills.

And so can we! Understatement of the year!

Yes! Blame someone else if at all possible! You're very good at that. Oh and add a swear word, makes you look more tough.

if you ranked salaries by hours worked I'm not even the highest paid person in Qantas because the pilots and senior captains get paid a lot more," Mr Joyce said.
Yes! Poor underpaid you! See above, deflect everything on someone else. The only way you can attempt to justify your pay is to try and say the pilots get more - what a clown, struggling to justify your pay based on your achievements?

Maths Genius?

The definition of a maths genius in Ireland must be different to the rest of the world's defintion.
My 5 year old's understanding of Maths is superior to Slics.Perhaps that's why Qantas and Ireland are up the creek financially.
What an absolutely insulting thing to say.He is assuming we are all Irish and believe that crock.

Are CEO's/corporate board members ever required to undergo a formal psychiatric evaluation? Perhaps shareholders in these major corporations might wish to invest in psych evals for their corporate chiefs as part of a full due diligence. After all companies like KAL, ANA etc require it of their expat. Captains!

And I certainly wouldn't accept being paid less than an A380 Captain if I were running QF!!!

Why should he earn more than a Captain? Does a hospital administrator earn more that a senior surgeon working at a hospital. I don't think so. Just because he runs the place, doesn't mean he gets paid more than a specialist with certain required skills.

And give me a job where I fly 1000 hours a year and I am at work for 1000 hours and no more.

Not only is he relying on the innumeracy of the journo's/public but the ignorance of the "hours" a pilot works.

I am MORE than happy to have the Captain of the A380 I fly in earn $410,000 a year.

Joyce? I seriously wouldn't p!ss on the bloke if he were on fire. I'd probably call an ambulance, but I certainly wouldn't call the hospital to see if he were OK.....................

Thumbs down

If he believes it he's an ignorant fool. If he doesn't believe it then he's lying. His choice really. Quite informative I reckon.

Or to put it down on paper in the simplest form ever.
5,000,000 divided by 410,000 equals 12.2.
AJ does more hours than 12.2 times a 380 capt.
He must not go to sleep.
I would do it for a mill/year.
I 'm sure I couldn't actually do any worse then him and QF save 4 mil
