Without knowing exactly the current numbers Open Descent, I would suggest an acceptable ball park would be that closely mirroring another full service airlines SO rate ie. possibly that of QF
Not sure what on earth is going on down there, I do know we are being inundated with applications from all over Oz.
If the commuting option is brought to the table to the Oz drivers, and it will, then things will definitely become interesting in the region.

Berealgetreal, 'we' referring to the main operators in HKG.
The commuting option with basings in Australia has risen it's head again, as previously mentioning it was enough to be politely asked to leave. I know of a couple of airlines looking at it at the moment, although I'm not sure how it will work.

Im sure comparable rates to QF would be highly desired, but I imagine that would be highly unlikely as VA Captain and FO rates don't compare to QF either.
Littlebird your point about huge interest from this part of the world, and no doubt many VA crew is well taken, and is a problem VA will surely be facing when the legacy carriers start offering positions to those who are seeking them.
It remains to be seen what they will do to attempt to retain crews.
It's funny that QF threw the kitchen sink at VA as little as a few years ago in an attempt to grind them into the ground. I would have thought taking a couple of hundred of their pilots in one foul swoop would have done just as good a job in that regard??

Commuting options for CX, EK and others would "change" things here a tad. I'll believe it when I see it.
It isn't possible to pay SO's the same as QF as they'd be earning more than VA captains. One has to ask how is it the conditions are so different yet QF performance is so much better.
Anyway nature will take it's course.

Rubbish. If you think all SO's at QF are on 200K, you're misinformed.
There may be some on the 380 that can achieve that, but not on the 400 and absolutely not on the 330.
No new hires will be put on the 400 or 380.
That's my point.

Original post was tongue in cheek.
I'm well aware what the salaries on the various QF fleets as are a large contingent of SO's, FO's and apparently some Captains at VA.
Of course salary is only one of the criteria people use to decide when looking to jump ship.

Is it just me? I find it unsettling that a CP would negotiate an EBA on behalf of the company. If his terms of employment are none of my business, I don't see how my renumeration package is any part of his business. Surely there are more pressing matters for a CP.
The chief pilot is the pilot's boss and as a result he is the person who in that organisation does the negotiating from the company side.
The alternative is having HR do it by themselves which would be a cock up.

The other part to this is that in VA the Chief Pilot is not the HOFO for the AOC's. Closer to the Deputy Fleet Managers in the other main Airline. HOFO has not been in most of the negotiations as I have heard from the negotiators. Snakecharma is on the money.
It is normal where I am from to have the CP negotiate against the group he is leading / trying to lead. I've always thought it quite strange that at 11am the CP might be saying "Tally Ho chaps, lets band together and do this right" and after lunch he might be saying " No....the pilots aren't worth that much and besides , there's no money in the kitty".
