I'll second that Bunglerat. And I also fly the line.

Engagement survey was in another era and whilst the issues are just as important I have only seen improvement from day one of JB reign.

Uniforms, Sabre improvements, commitment to improving meals, SE Qld base, A330 flying committed to VB crews, communication, expansion of the network.

I struggle with the attitude that VCQ et al say exists.

JB is not there for the benefit of the pilots but there is not another Airline in Australia that I would rather be in at the moment.

If those that are still disengaged from the Godfrey era are unhappy perhaps a reality check overseas or worse still in J* would fix their attitude.

From what I have been told by SACL Operations staff, The A330's will park on bay 58 and possibly 59. This is the reason for the work on Twy C. They will straighten B4 to allow wingtip clearance. I assume the floodlight tower on bay 58 will need to be moved also.

What I dont know is, since VB rarely operate out of this terminal finger, it will be rather a different area for them. Im not sure where the VB lounge is, but Im guessing its not in that finger?

Global Xpress: That's interesting... I had been told that they were actually extending that finger further out... however what you have just said makes more sense.

Anyone know the facts for certain? Nothing on the SACL website... just more about parking increases...

Thumbs down

If SACL are to move the lighting pole on 58, what are the guys and gals at Eastern, sorry Qlink going to aim at?
It isn't exactly in a very smart place. It would have been fine when 58/59 were aerobridge only.

The drive in/drive out is an afterthought, and a real set-up - particularly if you're on 58.

The location of the hangar in the Eastern Park is going to cause some issues for Execujet and the like.

The hangar will provide onshore A-Check capability for the 777's (AMSA/SIAEC) and will also eliminate the JHAS monopoly on A330 A-Check capability with that work likely to go to AMSA/SIAEC at expiry of the JHAS 2 year contract.

It will also assist VT with B737 / E-Jet AOG's that require a hangar for rectification rather than having to beg QF for hangar space when needed.

Not forecast to be occupied by VT from what I hear.

I think you will find it's the other way round. JHAS will pick up the B777 at the end of the siaec contract. VB is now in bed with a SRT JHAS collaboration backed by Mubadala which is the tie up with Etihad. Don't forget, JHAS is an alliance partner with VB.

i for one, may finally look at getting back into the maintanence game after being made reduntent in 06 by the rat. What i hear is the rat will have a hell of a time trying to hold onto LAMEs and AMEs once this hangar is open. Finally some true competion in Sydney for aircraft engineers...

Nope!

JHAS not in this race, ANZES still in the running though now that they have some VB ownership (decision influence) and a current 777 approval.

QF1, that is going to be an interesting situation.
I'm sure there are a few (sic) current QF, past QF, under employed part timers and those still on the redundancy scrapheap that will be very interested.maybe tempt former Ansett people back into the game in Sydney?
Boeing is closing their plant at Bankstown too. There'll be some LAMEs AMEs and pro engineers looking for work.
Hope they put on apprentices before all the old farts like me retire.

i have been building the business up to a point where it is worth alot more than i bought it for.time to nearly sell out, bank the profits and semi retire(back to a 38 hr week)..working with general public is much harder work than working with engineers in a hangar enviroment..keeping all options open

ampclamp...Boeing Sydney have no LAMES and most if not all ames are structures people and a large portion of them are not aircraft trained.there are no real aircraft maintenace orgs left here, positions will be plentiful.

They may not have to fork out the cash to build one now after all QF1.

All virgin have to do is stand by and watch Joyce and co destroy Qantas and move what's left to Asia and they'll be able to take their pick of the hangars at the Qantas jet base.

Why outlay all that capital on infrastructure that your competitor seems hell bent on gifting to you through a regime of self destruction?

I though they had already started the basic pre construction stuff. Either that or something else is being put together on that site.
