Jetstar passengers fall ill on Honolulu flight

September 25, 2007 - 12:07PM

Passengers aboard a Jetstar flight from Australia were sequestered in Honolulu for more than an hour today after 10 of them became ill from food poisoning.

It is unclear whether they were poisoned by food eaten before or during the Jetstar flight from Melbourne, said state Department of Transportation spokesman Scott Ishikawa.

They were held for more than an hour in a new quarantine area at Honolulu International Airport while being checked and released by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

One passenger was taken to a hospital.

"All of them had symptoms of vomiting, but no symptoms of fever, which would have indicated something more serious," Ishikawa said.

"I'm not sure if the food was consumed on the plane or elsewhere. But you have to quarantine the plane to make sure it's nothing more serious."

Passengers on the Airbus A330-200 jet were cleared by US public health officials to leave the plane at 10am local time today (0600 Tuesday AEST) Ishikawa said.

He did not know how many people were aboard.

"Any time we have a plane with a number of people sick, we have the plane park at the far end of the airport," Ishikawa said.

Honolulu is the only US city that Jetstar serves.

The popular budget carrier is a subsidiary of Australia's flagship Qantas Airways.

Easy as to what will happen if the Media give them to hard a time, they will just go and "WIN "another award to prove how good they are.
Just can't see how JetStar is going to make a profit though, if they go and "WIN" an award every time the media starts taking an interest in them .

That's funny - saw a Jetstar A330 holding over the NN VOR and then landed in NAN (I think it came from the north). Spoke to ground staff and they siad it was due to medical emergency. But that was on Wed 26 Sept!
