Countries Hiring Controllers

Hey all. I am new to this website (was told about you all from a controller in Canada). I am currently a controller at JFK and have had an interest in doing ATC in another country. My first 2 thoughts were Canada and Australia -- however, both those countries said I had to be a citizen or landed immigrant to even apply. Are there other options for me? Thank you very much! Wish you all the best.

I believe the german ATC provider (DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH - www.dfs.de) is still looking for "ready-entry" ATCOs, aka fully trainied ATCOs that only need on the job training. Their current job-ad can be found here.

While Airservices Australia's website states you need to be a citizen or have permanent residency, there have been quite a few controllers recruited without this recently.

@melbATC:

I assume that traveling cost is not refounded like it is the case with Eurocontrol?

The GCAA are recruiting for Area Control in Abu Dhabi and possibly still Tower/Approach or Dubai is usually interested in new people for Approach. (Not sure if they are actively recruiting at the moment though).

If you apply for Australia don't be surprised if you don't get anywhere near an Approach Unit, there is an internal waiting list a mile long for these jobs. You will probably end up in one of the Area Sectors in either Brisbane or Melbourne.

I'm mot sure, however I doubt costs other than the required medical would be refunded.

Regarding Airservices

Actually or any country -- I have done my job in the tower. I would prefer to stay in a tower. Are these companies open to allowing applicants to stay in the area they have their experience in? Again, thank you. I enjoy this site so far ..

With Airservices, they will basically send you where they need you, they may take experience into account but there is no guarantee.

However due to some new towers and changes being made in some existing towers there will be a large need for more tower controllers in the coming months.

Will you be taking the kids with you?

LEGAL TENDER 30th Mar 2010 13:15

What counties are hiring?
Aberdeenshire are always looking ;)

Oh sorry you said countRies ;)

Clear2Land78 30th Mar 2010 16:40

Hey. It is just me. No kids. I don't even have a lot of stuff. I might just take 2 suitcases with me. I do want to stay in the tower environment. I saw Airservices hiring but I don't meet the work permit status. I was thinking of applying and putting in the cover letter that I am aware I do not meet that requirement, but I would like to be considered if they change that requirement sometime soon. Any opinions?

As far as Dubai goes -- thanks for offering to help. I was thinking more of Canada, Australia ...

Again, thanks for all your help.

Quid Pro Quo!

Makes me laugh when guys from the US go looking elsewhere when others can't go to the US and work. An open and free market is great, so why does the US consider their homeland security so important than other nationalities couldn't possibly be trusted? Why wouldn't the same apply in Oz or Canada or anywhere else for that matter?

:ugh:

We have already had a discussion regarding this security issue..
Needless to say that answers why USA requires citizenship for ATCOs job are stupid,at least... :E
Could you imagine that some North Korean guy, working on KJFK cleranace delivery says:
United yx cleared to ....

Security.......... or is it paranoia? :)

That may be apt, but would the same apply to someone from one of the so-called allies of the States, say from the UK or Canada?
Why would a controller who passes all the security checks from these countries not be safe to work in the US?

Clear2Land78 30th Mar 2010 22:48

Hey all. Yes I am an American controller. But with respect, I am not responsible for the rules. I hope none of you are actually hating on me because I happen to be born where I was. I'd love more than anything to move to another country but I can't. I guess everyone always thinks the grass is greener on the other side -- just lots of us can't get over the fence.

aldegar 31st Mar 2010 06:32

Clear2land78, I think Red Dragon was being critical with the situation, not with you. Don't worry, nobody hates you ;)

Rule3 31st Mar 2010 09:15

Why can't you move?

:confused:There are,or were Americans working in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Hong Kong and possibly now in Muscat.:ok:
