Airspace in the UK
Hello,
I'm trying to understand the UK airspace classes and getting a bit confused.
On a UK VFR chart above, correct if I'm wrong but this says the LTMA class A starts at 5,500ft and the WORTHING CTA class A starts at Flight level 75, obviously if your flying at these heights your penetrating this airspace and must have permission to enter on a IFR flight but no VFR permitted.
Are you allowed to fly below the 5,500 ft and Flight level 75 in those areas? If so would this then become uncontrolled airspace and if so what class does this become, class G?

I didnt think UK had any class A anymore. Makes me wonder how old your maps actually are.
You are correct i your assessment. I would point out that the vice versa if you will woth danger areas, if the height is designated as al altitude (eg 5000'), you must be 5001' or above to be clear of danger area. If it is a flight level, (egFL75), then you are clear by being at FL75. This would be the same in your CTA or airway example. Base of an airway is FL75, then you can cross the airway perpendicular at FL75. Hope this help and i await to be corrected.

Plenty of Class A airspace in the UK still. The LTMA is one, along with the Worthing CTA.
In my understanding, and bear in mind I'm an en-route controller, is that you can cross an airway at the base level, but crossing the base of a CTA at the base level will mean you're infringing. You need to be below it - I think.
I'm prepared to be corrected on that by someone who operates a lot lower to the ground than I do most of the time, but that's what I understand it to be

That shot is taken just south of Shoreham. What I'd like to know is what is that 361amsl obstruction in the middle of the sea. A wind farm?

Thanks for that. E-ON show it as still under construction.
For many years, there was a mast shown at the 'Golden Pot' just south of Odiham with a height of over 1000ft amsl. It was only when I was drawing the RMAC for Farnborough that I was able to prove to the CAA that it didn't exist; never had. Apparently, the survey company hadn't bothered to actually survey it, they had merely seen an application for planning permission for it which was turned down due to it affecting the iaps for both Farnborough and Odiham.
At the same time I was also able to get rid of a notification of several buildings up to 480ft amsl just south of Guildford. Nobody could tell me how that got on the half mil; there was just a water tower about 100ft agl.
