Traffic Reduction During Transition etc

Interested in hearing from those of you that have transitioned to a new ATM system in the past 10 years or so.

By how much (%) and for how long, if any, did your ANSP reduce ATC capacity?

Another minor item; Despite the Utopian desire of some to have a totally paperless ATC Centre, do you still have note pads of some sort to jot down stuff that can't be stored electronically or is just not practical to enter via a keyboard/mouse? Pics would be greatly appreciated. Can PM if its sensitive info.

Thanks in advance!

BB

I'm not sure that finding out other unit's reductions in capacity will help as its surely more to do with a factor of complexity? (Airspace, traffic, ergonomics of new system, etc.)

Take your point good egg. Realize it depends on how close your demand is to capacity normally before transitioning.
Not using it as something to base our own on, just interested to hear what sort of figures other close-to-capacity places found acceptable from a stakeholder viewpoint and their rationale.

Scroll down to the bottom for the most recent pics. No paper, no notepads.

As for duration....

How many shifts do you anticipate it will take a controller to become adept at handling maximum traffic with new system? (Largely dependent on amount/quality of SIM training beforehand?)
How many watches do you have?
What's the shift plan like?

E.g. If it is anticipated that 6 shifts is sufficient for a controller (and all controllers work 6-on/4-off (2mornings, 2afternoons, 2nights, 1sleep day, 3rest days)), using a 5-watch shift, it'd take 10days.
In practice, of course, controllers may go sick or be on annual leave so it's not quite that simple...
