CPH ATC - operational questions

Dear All,

I am looking to learn more about the ATC operation at Copenhagen Airport, and in particular to find answers to some questions that have arisen in my head when I learned how the airfield operates. Perhaps a local to CPH may be able to help:

1) I understand you operate dependent parallel approaches to runways 22L/22R during arrival peaks. However, the runway separation is about 600 m, and ICAO SOIR says that you need 915 m for these kind of approaches. So how do you do it?

2) How do you manage to get so many departures with 1 minute splits, when most aircraft follow SID routes that are not divergent by more than 45 degrees?

I would be really interested to find out!

Best regards

I know both are mentioned in the AIP. in AD2-EKCH and GEN 1.7.

I would also like to know how that got into the AIP in the first place. I imagine the threshold displacement will have been a factor for the parallel approaches.

Hi Notalot,

babotika is right with regards to the runway displacement;

Annex 14: 1) ...may be decreased by 30 m for each 150 m that the arrival runway is staggered toward the arriving
aircraft, to a minimum of 300 m...

With regards to departures we are blessed with a rather benevolent mix of traffic, and very few restrictions as we are surrounded by water 270 degrees.

PM if you need further info.
