PARTICIPANTS DESIRED FOR INVESTIGATING
AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS’ PERCEPTIONS ON SIMULATION FIDELITY AND TRAINING

We are looking for volunteers to take part in an online survey study examining air traffic controllers’ perspectives on simulation fidelity and its effects on training. The results will be used as a foundation to provide more structure and information to air navigation service providers regarding the best uses for different types of simulation in ATC training programs to better prepare trainees for the work to come. This project is conducted under the supervision of Professor Jonathan Histon.

In order to participate in the study, you are expected to have experience in the development and/or use of ATC simulations. This includes specifically:

• Air Traffic controllers who have used simulation for training / participated in simulation studies
• Controller Training designers / developers
• Air Traffic Control instructors

This also includes all controllers in general as most have used simulation at one point or another to complete some form of training and may have some views or opinions as to how the fidelity of the simulation affected their training experience.

In the survey, you will be asked to answer questions pertaining to your experiences using simulation of varying degrees of fidelity, your views of the importance of fidelity when training for ATC both as ab-initio students and for recurrent purposes, and your critical feedback on simulation fidelity concepts developed by the researchers.

The survey takes approximately 40 minutes to complete, which can be finished whenever and wherever at your convenience. Please be noted that no login and passwords are required, but the survey can be completed in more than one sitting simply by saving your progress and continuing at a later time and place. Participation is voluntary and anonymous. Although no monetary remuneration will be given, your commitment is greatly appreciated. If you are interested in knowing the results, please contact the researcher directly via the email below. We will forward you a copy of the results when the study is completed.
