Minimum Requirements ?

Hello everyone, I am new on here and have a question regarding the minimum requirements. I am 34 years old and have the chance to change career, obviously a massive decision taking into account mortgage and family.

I would be applying to become a Trainee ATC and have 3 GCSE's inc Maths & English, I also have a NVQ Level 3 from completing an advanced apprenticeship which is equivalent to 2 A Levels. I know the min. is stated as 5 GCSE's or equivalent and I maybe worrying about nothing but I have a small amount of time to decide on my direction and I'm not sure if I would be considered.

I'm surprised nobody has replied to this.

Simple answer would be to call the potential employer and ask them. If it's NATS then I would suspect they have enough applicants to stick rigidly to the minimum of 5 GCSEs

Good luck

I agree with Squawk7500. When I tried to get into ATC back in the 60s I only had two O levels but I passed a Civil Service examination for a post which, for outsiders, required 5 O levels. I used this to apply to become an ATC Assistant but was refused as they were adamant about the basic requirements. I don't know if this has changed. Your age is not on your side, although expect a flood of posts from people much older who succeeded! The training is fairly tough and goes on until one validates at an ATC unit, which can take some years especially at busy places. You may not get a choice of posting if you get through the basics. Lastly, if you are currently employed in aviation operations this could help..

I wish you all the luck in the world.
