I'm 19 and I passed Stage 2. If you have minimum requirements they will accept you, just make sure you look professional (take special attention to your hair, as if you have long hair with curls it won't look as professional as if you had shorter hair - my case, so I had to adopt another hairstyle just for NATS 
). If you really want it, the journey will be nothing (you can revise the booklet), in my case I'm from Portugal and I passed 18 hours travelling just to do the ATC Knowledge Test (already taken and passed FEAST and DART at Eurocontrol).
Tips for the day: calm down, try to make friends and plan ahead (if they asked you to be there at 8:00, try to get there at 7:20 to avoid possible delays due to traffic or.just use the good old public transport - like me
).
The test will be fairly simple, just hammer down the booklet (they wont ask you things like "What is jetfuel maid of").
If any of you are thinking about staying overnight at Southampton, I recommends the ibis Budget as it is fairly cheap, clean, confortable and is really close to the rail station!

Hi all,
I have found this forum really useful and I have finally got my stage 3 this monday! The part I am really worried about is the PDF that I have been sent which says how important that I learn the contents. I was just wondering how they test it as there are so many plane types to learn with roughly similar FL's and speeds so I can just see me tripping up over this part.

@matta691 don't worry about it, the idea is to know that info more generally, so if I was to ask you which aircraft was suitable to fly from London to Hong Kong then Boeing 747 would be an appropriate answer

I have my Stage 3 Interview coming on the 13th of June.
What stage are you at?
I met some nice people on stage 1 , not much luck with that on stage 2 - now I hope I run into some nice people again. Hopefully some of you guys will be there.
Even if I fail it will be nice to have few friends who work in NATS.

Hi guys,
I got through stage 2 and have my stage 3 day booked in July (looking forward to it with a mix of excitement and trepidation!), and from what I've read on here I understand that stage 3 is basically the final stage (other than the medical and what not).
However, according to the infographic here ( Infographic: Becoming an Air Traffic Controller - NATS Blog ) there is a 4th stage too.
I'm just wondering which is correct.
Plus, has anyone got any pointers for stage 3? I notice a few of us have it coming up.. Are the questions based on the PDF booklet basically like the multi-choice questions from stage 2 except more thorough and non-multiple choice? And are all the questions based solely on what the PDF covers?

I drove down to stage 2 with thedip (from a couple pages back) and he had printed out all the details into table format which made it MUCH easier to learn compared to the way its printed in the pdf. Its still all unconnected, but you start to see the patterns between planes.

Got stage 3 booked for July as well. There is a pretty simples way of learning all the speeds, altitudes and passengers...
Organize everything by manufacturers and then order the list from the slowest to the fastest (speed is the only fixed value). You will see that speeds will be so easy to learn, then you just need to work a bit harder for the altitudes and passengers.

Seeg,
Stage 3 and stage 4 in the info graphic are wrapped together in what is referred to here as stage 3. I'm not aware of anyone turning up to the 'stage 3' day and not doing both

Hi All,
I've received my invitation to pick a Stage 2 date and will be attending 1st July.
From what I've read thus far, it doesn't seem necessary to learn absolutely every airplane fact and figure, just a general understanding of how they differ. Is this correct? I'd hate to be under prepared, although to trim down the revision on the airplane stats would be a massive relief.

I know this topic has probably been addressed here but given that there are so many replies to this thread i opted for putting my question directly to a benevolent soul who might know how to answer it.
I am now waiting for my stage 2 of NATS selection process which is due in 2 weeks time and would like to know if there is any recommended software to practice for FEAST and DART. So far, i've found these out:
SkyTest® - Preparation Software for DLR Test (Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Swiss, Turkish Airlines, Royal Jordanian, SunExpress, DFS), Cargolux, FEAST (Eurocontrol), Austro Control, Skyguide

My default position is that you should look to practice as much as possible before these tests (hence my query) but i've read some opinions in this forum either advising against doing this or downplaying its importance by sugesting training with some common puzzle games.
