View Full Version : Charter Airlines which also fly Scheduled

I just wanted to know how the charter airlines which also do scheduled services separate the two. (Air2k, Monarch etc.)

Are pilots and cabin crew mixed between the two? Say in the case of Monarch, do the flight deck and cabin crew fly for both Monarch and Monarch scheduled or just one or the other?

Then there's the aircraft - do they mix between the two? I know Monarch tend to operate the newer airbuses on the Scheduled runs, atleast from Manchester. Any particular reason? Increased comfort? The old 757's being the workhorses of their charter operations.

Thanks

Hi,

MON operate A320/A321 almost always on the scheduled routes from MAN unless the aircraft went "tech" and then they would probably use 757/A300. I would say the reason they use the Airbus 320/321 because they are much newer then the 757 fleet. Which are of 15 years of age.

Same pilots, same Cabin crew at Monarch. Monafrch scheduled uses the Airbus most of the time, but the 757 is employed exclusively on the GIB route this summer out of LTN, plus some of the AGP and FAO's.

Hi,

Thanks EGCC :ok:. How come MON are painting the older 757's first?

Monarch are only painting their fleet in the new colours when each aircraft is due for its usual respray, except for the new airbuses which were recently delivered. So it would appear that those two 757's were the first due for a respray anyway and hence they get the new colours.
It keeps the cost of the rebrand down, by not taking aircraft out of service unnecessarily.

The A330's may be getting their new paint over the winter.
