ha ha, good one Birthday Boy. Actually we all know, that's the number of airlines Air Canada has put out of business at that airport since the last observation.

Try this one. http://205.156.54.206/oso/oso1/oso12/fmh1/fmh1ch12.htm#ch12link
Scroll down to para 12.7
Here is a link to FAA Order 7340 referred to in the text.

Still can't figure what AC4 means though, perhaps Bithday Boy's suggestion isn't too far from the truth!

Xacto.

Thanks Xacto!

I noticed you replied to a topic regarding SNOWTAMs and MOTNE reports a little while ago. Do you know any links about those?

Hey Canadians! :D What's TC link to METARS?

just to reiterate, bdayboy is correct.
AC4 is alto-cumulus 4 oktas(4/8ths sky coverage) defining BKN110 (broken layer @ 11,000')

Squawk7777,

In Canada they have a nice feature in which they give not only the amount of cloud, but how much this could if effect your inflight visability.

The AC4 means that the BKN ALTOCUMULUS at FL110 is really only equivilant to covering 4/8 (i.e. very thin), it helps you work out if its overcast by a thick layer or cloud, or multiple thin layers.

A better example ....

METAR CYQL 011800Z 18018KT 30SM FEW060 FEW100 BKN210 00/M08 A2935 RMK SC1AC1CI3 SLP994

RMK SC1AC1CI3 means CLOUD WITH OPACITY: STRATOCUMULUS 1/8 (FEW060) ALTOCUMULUS 1/8 (FEW100) CIRRUS 3/8 (BKN210), i.e. it is not overcast as the combined opacity is not 8/8 even though the combined cloud eighths is greater than 8.

The SLP994 is the QNH in MB, A2935 in inHg

Other Squawk, Nav Canada is at http://www.flightplanning.navcanada.ca

BB is correct. The remarks section includes cloud with opacity giving the cloud type and amount of coverage. A good learning tool for this stuff is the NavCan website which includes "plain language" translations of METARs and TAFs.

Hm, what about this one:

30420340 = ???

--------------------
Looks like a SNOWTAM code, if so

30=runway = 30
4= Deposit type = dry snow
2 = extent of contamination = 11-35%
03 = depth of contamination = 03mm
40 = braking coefficient = 0.40
