AURIGNY is applying for a route license to operate between Jersey and Southampton.

The airline is evaluating the route economics following the announcement that British Airways is reducing its number of flights and withdrawing completely from the route in October.

Malcolm Hart, Aurigny’s managing director, said he was keen to continue to expand the route network and this was a very attractive opportunity.

‘Southampton is the major business and tourism gateway for the South of England and would provide a perfect complement to our expanding service network.

We are currently examining the financial viability of the route, and are preparing an application to the Economic Development Committee for a license.’

If successful, this would be the fifth new route the airline has been awarded in the past six months.

Aurigny has recently been given licenses to operate from Jersey to Bournemouth and to London Stansted and has also applied to fly from Guernsey to Bournemouth.
