somebody told me that American Airlines has recenrly installed GPS on all their a/c and UAL is in the process. Is that true?

No, not true....
most of the MD-80's have been updated with GPS FMS, but the work's still on-going. Most of the 757's and 767's still have INS with vortac positioning updates; a few have Pegasus GPS FMS. All 777's and 737's, of course, don't know about the 'Busses - Wino, step in here...
