Hi,

I'm an ATC Wannabe, and I was wondering if anyone knew any good downloadable Tower simulators? I've found some radar ones, but cant find any recent (post windows 3.1) sims.

It would be nice to get a go at doing something now rules mean that I cant actually talk to aircraft.

Do a search for a piece of software called "BAO Tower" or even just "Tower".

As far as I'm aware it's classified as abandonware now and thusly is available on some sites legally available for download.

It's a Windows 3.1 based Tower (aerodrome) sim that's a reasonably entertaining and passable bit of software. It is, as these things tend to be, US based but it's still good fun nonetheless.

Hope this helps :)

I would have thought a ground control simulator would be a good thing as well.

Anyone know of any available for download / purchase?

Richard.

The one used at the college is called SIMTAC and is enourmously expensive and useless as a home based simulator. Tower does the job perfectly well.

I came across one at www.atcsimulator.com (I think! Try some variations on that if it doesn't work) It looks quite tasty and has some moving graphic examples on the web site. Can be voice controlled too!

I used to have Tower but have no idea where the software diappeared to. If you come across a web site with it, perhaps you would be good enough to let me know as it is quite entertaining as previously stated.

I've found a downloadable full version of "BAO Tower" for you all - if anyone would like a link to the page drop me a Private Message here, just to save on posting a direct link on PPRuNe (although as I said - it's abandonware as opposed to pirated software).

There is something that blows those sims out of the water entirely.

Visit this site for more information (http://www.vatsim.net)

and also (http://www.vatsim-uk.org)

Basically, it's an online ATC simulator, with the ability to talk to real people (some of whom are real ATCO's, real pilots and those currently studing at College of ATC in Bornemouth)

And it's free too.

PM me for more help if needed,
Andrew :D

Bearing this in mind, I found a little solution for us XP users....

When starting TOWER with XP, you get a message saying...

this vesrion of MSVCRT20.dll is only intended for Win32s.

I fixed this by the following....
go into the tower folder
rename MSVCRT20.dll to MSVCRT20.bak
rename the other file that says MSVCRT**.dll (the two ** being a number)
to read as MSVCRT20.dll
I still do not get any voice - I need to switch this off, but hey at least TOWER will run now :D

If someone else finds out a good fix then let us all know please.

cheers,
Andrew

Have a look at ATCC, http://www.xavius.com

It's a very detailed center controller sim.

Its not a Tower sim, but check this one (http://users.skynet.be/atcsim/)

It might explain how data link can work in the future - even in TMA's and approach.

Its not a Tower sim, but check this one

That is a good one as well, but it still doesn't beat online ATC sims :D Where else can you actually talk to other people and use a quite realistic interface.

Have a look at ATCC, http://www.xavius.com

Cheers for that - I 'll have a look at that meself.

May be a bit over the top, never mind pricey, but try UFA (http://www.atcoach.com/index.html) they use speech recognition to simulate accepting clearances in place of psuedo pilots
