Afternoon Ppruners...

A lady friend of mine turned up today to take her driving test. She's recoving from illness and her voice sounds v hoarse...she explained this so he didn't think she was a cross-dresser or anything.

Anyway, they went through the preliminary stuff...went out to the car..got in...ready to start..and the examiner decided she couldn't take her test as she'd got an infectious disease. He refused to carry on, over her & her instructors objections...he said 'I have the right to refuse to take a test' He then said she either lost her money on the test (£39), or went to a doctors & got a note saying she was ill. Now she had prescriptions so the docs do know she's not been well but how the hell can a examiner decide she's unfit for the test...yet then the onus is placed back on her to prove she was ill to get a refund..even though she felt well enough to take it. She'll even have to pay for a doctors note!

It's a big balls-up and very annoying as they say they won't be able to fit her in for another test for 6 weeks...so thats 6 weeks more lessons she needs to pay for..and another day off work!

Any help, advice, template letters of abuse/anger would be much appreciated.

Ta in advance,

TC

Perhaps worth mentioning in the letter that if the infectous disease was such a problem why did he allow her to start the test.

Bunch of w*****s driving examiners.

M,

Last thing I knew (going back a few years) no-one has any form of remedial address against HM driving instructors. Period. There is a process of appeal but doesn't overturn any decision.

Stoopid huh?

Now we've only heard her side of the story which doesn't give us much to go on but so to play devil's advocate.....

So this lady turns up, not fully recovered from an illness. She may have preferred to postpone until she was better but due to the hassle of getting a new test, she goes along anyway, with no appreciation for the health of the poor chap who's got to sit in close proximity to 7 or 8 strange germ carrying people every day.

I'd also point out that, whilst she may have felt well enough, she was still, by her own admission, ill. Recovering, but ill.

It's not the examiner's job to decide how ill the candidate is, but it is his prerogative to decide whether or not he is prepared to share a very confined space with them.

Doesn't sound so unreasonable now, does it?

Miserlou, I hear what your saying but it sounds like sh1t to me.

I know I could never refuse to serve a customer because they had the sniffles and I didn't want to catch it. I'm surprised doctors even have receptionists as if they all had his attitude they'd never do any bloody work at all...not wanting to be around sick people all day.

TC - that bloke just sounds like a (unt

I think the point is that if the test cannot proceed due to illness the woman is entitled to a free retest. The test did not go ahead due to illness, and so she should automatically be given a free retest. The final decision was made by the examiner, not the candidate, so there should be no need for a doctor's note.

If the doctor says she was too ill to take the test, she is entitled to a free retest. If the doctor says she was not too ill to take the test then the examiner's decision was wrong, and costs her a test fee.

It wasn't the cancelling that REALLY annoyed me, it was the fact they they just say...I've cancelled your test....either lose your money or bring me proof of how ill you are.....but he already decided you were too ill to take the test! If the doc had been a swine & said...no your not too ill I wont write a letter then what would've happend....she'd have lost her money?

Anyway, still not re-booked as yet but the doctor was not pleased...according to the doc it's not even contageous & it was 'more bloody paper work because of a jumped up nobody'

ha ha, wish my doctor got so animated.

(edited as I've only just seen sendclowns also replied...far more eloquently than I could)

TC - Praying for a big bolt of lightening to strike down on Mr 'cant be arsed' examiners office
