Hilico, if you will read the other HP thread, you will see that Timmcat jnr started reading the book at 06:40 BST, and completed it at 17:10 BST. HONEST (he's a bit of a prodigy, unlike his father).

If so, then bizarrely what's been killed in Harry Potter is the joy of reading! I keep telling Mrs Co, ardent fan that she is, SLOW DOWN, read it a bit at a time and enjoy it. The pleasure will stop when you've finished (true of many activities) so it makes more sense to take as long as possible over it.

John Farley writes the best aviation column currently available, in Flyer; that magazine drops through the door, I tear off the wrapping, read his first sentence and shut the mag. Have another mouthful of Shreddies. Open the mag again, read the next sentence. Shut. Chew. Consider. Read another little bit...ooh, I can't wait for the July issue, I really can't. So I do know what it feels like to be gagging for it.

I'm one of those odd people who likes to read a book in record time.....however, I THEN go back and re-read parts of the book...or re-read the whole book...keeps me entertained for yonks. Get good value out of my books, I do.

Now...back to Harry Potter...

The short lodgers had various friends (ages10/11) over for the release of the book (Camping in the garden, bar-b-q and all down to the bookshop at midnight to collect their copies) By 00:10 they had settled down to read. Very little sleep was had but at 8am the next morning when I asked who died not one child was able to tell me - explaining "I've only got as far as page....."

Now, if you had a group of adults in the same position what proportion would have started at the back of the book to be the first to know??

By the way Harry's parents and Mrs Norris were killed but then you didn't specify which book.:p :p

The modern phenomenon of mass hysteria over the latest 'must have' whether it is an undoubtably well written book or the latest fad that grips the minds of otherwise intelligent people makes me despair at the society we seem to be becoming.

I'm with you Solotk. Don't mind her being rich but what the hell, I've been looking forward to a visit to the proctologist more than the release of this book. That said, Mrs Fitter did make me pre-order with Mr Amazon and my copy hasn't arrived yet
