On the bottom right of the throttle quadrant on the Boeing 777 and possibly other Boeing aircraft there are two selections- command and evac. Apart from the obvious what do these buttons do?

The 'command' switch is guarded to prevent inadvertant operation.
Lift the guard, flick the switch, and all hell breaks loose;)
Pull the 'pull' switch silences the horn BUT only at that station. (So that you can hear yourself think!)
Closing the guard switches the system off.

The large red oblong with "Evac" written on it flashes when the command switch is thrown - it continues to flash even after the horn is silenced so you can tell the system is activated. It is also useful if you are deaf!

hmmm,
i have always been curious! What does that horn actually sound like? I thought the cpt just spoke over the PA?

From what I can remember doing Maintenance Checks on 747's it sounds like an annoying Smoke Alarm
