Looks like good news all round. Will these flights be serviced by one of the three -200s based at Prestwick, or will another aircraft be required?

Ryanair has plenty critics but having just flown the Prestwick - Girona route, I was very happy. On schedule, good service and sixty quid return. :ok:

RYANAIR ADDS EXTRA SATURDAY FLIGHT TO BARCELONA-GIRONA TO MEET SCOTS' HUGE APPETITE FOR SPANISH SUNSHINE
Prestwick's Spanish service fastest-booking route in Ryanair's European network
and extra Saturday Stockholm flight to boost incoming visitors to Scotland

Ryanair's daily low-cost Glasgow Prestwick service to Barcelona Girona only started last week, yet such has been the demand for cheap seats that the airline has added a new Saturday departure.

The airline has taken a record 25,000 bookings for the Costa Brava sunshine route, and has added the extra capacity to meet the huge demand for weekend flights.

The extra flight will start on Saturday June 28, departing Glasgow Prestwick at 1445, arriving Girona at 1830 local time. The existing Saturday service departs at 1635 and arrives in Girona at 2020.

Sales Manager Kathryn Munro said: "Today the Glasgow Prestwick-Barcelona Girona service is the fastest-booking route in our entire European network, and no wonder.

"It's the only year-round low cost service out of Scotland, and Scots have paid as little as £29.99 one way to get some gorgeous Costa Brava sunshine. Here it's 15oc but over there it's a sizzling 29oC.

"They've cottoned on to the fact that two hours south of here the beaches are hot, the beer is cold, the tapas is tempting, the living is easy, and they're booking in droves."

Meanwhile Ryanair has added another Saturday service on its new daily Glasgow Prestwick-Stockholm Skavsta service.

Starting June 21, the new Saturday flight leaves at 0950, arriving at Skavsta at 1110. The existing flight goes at 1135, arriving 1450.

Ms Munro commented: "Our Barcelona service gets Scots out to the Spanish sunshine while our Stockholm service is bringing in plane loads of Swedes to Scotland.

"This year we expect some 100,000 Scandinavian visitors into Scotland on this route, great news for visitscotland and the local economy. They love the romance of Scotland - the scenery, the golf, the whisky, Burns, Scottish hospitality - and they're finding their money goes much further in Scotland than back home."

Glasgow Prestwick Managing Director Tom Wilson said: "While other airports are having to retrench and try to adjust to the low cost revolution, Glasgow Prestwick, Scotland's fastest-growing airport, is flying ahead and providing Scotland with more and more direct low cost air connections such as Barcelona Girona and Stockholm Skavsta.

"Both are absolute winners and the extra flights show the massive demand out there for Ryanair's cheap flights."

Brian Houston, a Board member of VisitScotland, said: "Sweden is a market with great potential for Scotland and we have already been working to prepare the market for this new route through initiatives such as "Scotland in Sweden" and the VisitScotland Golf Challenge.

"Improved direct access from key markets is crucial for the development of leisure and business tourism to Scotland. It is important that we continue to build upon the increasing number of direct routes coming into Scotland."
