Have just been reading on a spotters site the following, very interesting rumours! Whether they are true or not, is a very different question! Would be good for the north-east, if it was though :O

Easyjet to start flights to Rome and Copenhagen.

Snowflake, SAS low cost arm to start flights to CPH.

ryanair to increase frequency on NCL-DUB to 4 daily, but cease to serve Teeside. They ae also to base 2 737 aircraft to serve Frankfurt, Stockholm, Hamburg and Milan!

Anyone know any more? := :ok:

Would be brilliant if it happened.
What site did you read it on btw?

Rumour has it that FR will operate services to NCL from their european hubs rather than base aircraft in NCL.

I don't think easy will be looking to announce any more routes until later in the year as their 4th aircraft isn't due at NCL until 2004.

Haven't heard anything about snowflake.

Easy’s third aircraft arrives 1st August for the Paris, Bristol and Prague. Already two aircraft based now.

Two low cost operators both flying to CPH from EGNT? Would that really work?

I think there could be overkill on the CPH route if EASY and Snowflake go head to head. Dont really think the market is that big for 200+ people a day plus the SVG route.

According to airliners.net Snowflake arent interested in Newcastle at the moment and are more interested in cities around the alps but SAS are thinking about introducing a commuter kind of conglomerate with CRJs at aircraft of that type. Sounds very like Wideroe but with jets

I think it would be great news for expansion out of Newcastle, as someone who visits the city a lot (with relations) I know that the airport used to be pretty dead when it was just BA, EI, AF and Gill plus the charters.
Like at EMA its great news the arrival of the new no-frills-airlines.
I have heard that FR will be providing new services to NCL using the crews and aircraft coming in from the hubs rather than basing aircraft at NCL with rumours of routes to Girona/Barcelona, Hahn/Frankfurt, Charleoi/Brussels, Bergamo/Milan and Skavsta/Stockholm.
I have heard nothing of EasyJet - will they be expanding from EMA also? They only have about 3 aircraft there compared to about 7 at LPL!
About Snowflake, I heard they are only replacing SAS on routes that are traditional low-cost/charter airline territory like the Med etc. although rumour has it they are going to STN from CPH/OSL!

Teesside not in the North East then Lagerlout? Not exactly good news for EGNV though.

My apologies witchdoctor! :O

With regards to Ryanair, starting flights to Barcelona/Gerona, would this not cause over capacity considering easy also operate to BCN?

NCL needs more links to Europe, particularly FRA, MIL, ROM, GVA, STO etc, though I'm sure the airport authority would prefer the actual airports at these cities, not secondary airfields miles outside the city. Having said that any expansion is good news, better than the quiet days, as you say bmibaby.com!

A final thought has any airline ever considered a direct NCL-ATH route? Could be a money spinner, considering the large Greek community, who pay high fares via LHR etc.....
