I have heard that Carlisle isnt too busy now-a-days and that it is struggling to attact even GA aircraft to the once very busy beutiful airfield.
I have heard that they are shortly to commence some form of scheduled traffic does anyone know why they arent attracting GA traffic or business jets?? Is it they are not GA friendly anymore; if so thats a real shame they used to offer a first class service especially as weekends.

The place is almost totally dead. Except for the (mostly) private aircraft based there, the most frequent arrivals by far are the military. I agree that it is a shame, but I don't feel that the area has any real sustainable business to justify any amount of GA, let alone scheduled, activity. Other than the very small city of Carlisle, what else is there for miles around? The best they could get is tourist traffic, but I've never seen an aircraft towing a caravan yet.

Did they get the Sheffield ILS in the end? That was the rumour from earlier this year?
That's a big factor, cos the minimas are quite high and the LDA is significantly reduced (IIRC).
But, as witchdoctor says, it's only serving Carlisle and a very small number of (business (for that is where the money is!)) travellers.

There was a rumour going around that Scot Airways were looking into operating a CAX-LCY... however I would be prepared to put money on that its not going to happen.
Edited to say that the new mandatory use of high vis clothing on the apron is taking the biscuit. They will be calling it Carlisle International next!
