Regarding training for the Instrument Rating with just a PPL then some years later, studying for the ATPL Ground Exams...
Can someone make it clear to me if a pilot can be given credit for the theoretical exams he/she passes during the IR once studying for the ATPL's? Or does he/she have to re-take them once the time comes?
Thanks

No, you have to retake.

Only about 20 folks do the JAA PPL IR now per year
in the UK (see the CAA stats)

The IR has been hijacked by the 'professionals' in JAA countries - quite unlike the ICAO system that views it as a rating for PPLs to fly on instruments

I am afraid that many people I know who are in business
have elected to buy American Twins and use the
FAA IR in when travelling in the EU. - Quite legally and safely

The JAA-FCL all got too expensive for them and too
time consuming.
