If you are aged between 16 and 21 you can learn to fly for free with the Special Flying Award.

You will either train at a Naval Air Station for a week to get the Gliding Award, or if you are 17 or over, you can stay at 727 Naval Air Squadron in Plymouth to get the Powered Flying Award. You will stay at HMS Drake, free of charge, fly in a Grob G115 D2, gain experience of a range of flying activities and get the chance to visit some HM ships. In all, you should receive about 12 hours' flying time.

Selection process
You need to discuss your suitability with one of our Area Careers Liaison Officers or the Commanding Officer of your University Royal Naval Unit. Once they are satisfied you will need to complete an application form.

You will then be invited to attend a two-day selection process. If you are successful, your name will be put on a short-list for final selection later.

Sorry Scroggs

Unemployed and aged 22, wish I'd seen this a few months ago, thought it might help others though!
